All the body stiffness of a 2 door saloon but the ability to take the roof off/down. Also, no roof rust to worry about.
They are really growing on me
Anyone got one? What are they like to drive ?

And they're cheap so that's another plus point for you Jim!
On a serious note, the drive well and a really early one such as a pre sept '85 323i in an oddball colour has a certain appeal.

I have a diamond swarrrrtttz 316 and love it to bits although they are a bit of a "Marmite" car, you either love or hate how they look.
It only takes @ 20 seconds to put up the roof and you can also use it as a tilt roof.
It drives just the same as my sig pic e30 did and are really cheap to buy.
Apart from the roof and rear door cards , all the other "bits" are the same as a two door.
Mart.

Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.

The interesting thing about them is that you could have any 2 door saloon converted, so its quite possible to find some interesting examples. I saw a red 318iS Baur in the summer that looked very nice. Trouble is that they have all the usual E30 rust problems, with the added chance of water ingression, plus extra rust problems caused by the original conversion. They need to be inspected well.
Selection of BMW hardtops available, please ask!

They are not for me. OK, before BMW introduced the proper convertible, they were a fair option but after? Why anyone would have ordered one is beyond me.
I've had one for breaking and I just didn't "get it".
This one just refuses to sell. A 29k 6 pot for £10.5 bags? Looking at prices of very low milers recently, there's only one reason it ain't sold. It's a Baur!

I Have had mine for a few years, its off the road at the moment, i have a e46 for the daily stuff now. Mine is a SA built one, we didnt get the e30 convertible here so BMW SA bought knock-down kits and put them together here for the SA market. So mine is a facelift baur 325i (1990 year). Roof bits can be a problem to get especially the rubbers, mine still has the original roof and rubbers but its due for a replacement. I like it as you get a few roof options in one car, coupe, targa, landaulet or convertable.

They (BMW) wouldn't let Baur build it on base of the coupe. They did a prototype, but that was destroyed on "request" of BMW.B7 wrote:My god, they lost the plot with that one!!!diable wrote:jimbom30cab wrote:I don't think I have ever seen one of those Si
@B7: after the introduction they had the possibilety for other engines then the 325i and insurance was much lower in Germany.
A feature that still counts today; driving with the targapanel, rear part opened. Fast motoring without being blown away, and some shade (I really loved my Baur when I was in Italy) along the way.
Here an overview of the production. As can be seen, it dropped 1986 (introduction of the factoryconvertible) but climbed till the introduction of the 318i convertible.

The red line below are the frames sold to BMW SA.
But I can only say one thing: try it.
