There are exceptions to the rule but they are so few and far between. Best off saving your money, doubling your budget and be patient.

Just bought an M3 from Ireland. Flew over to view and got a deal and days hire car in one, for about £180. Definitely worth making the effort to go over yourself, if you do decide on an Irish car.
Does anyone know the procedure for getting it registered over here?

It's rather simple but will seem daunting to begin with. From what I remember:
Go to DVLA with the Irish log book and prior to going you need valid insurance and MOT. You'll be issued a UK reg and then you'll be able to tax it.
Remember to tell your insurance about re-reg.

Do you mean Irish MOT or is it a UK one I'll need?
I'm guessing I'll just need to insure it under the chassis number and/or Irish reg' plate?

Yea I used the Vin number to get temp insurance.
I think the DVLA accept the Irish equivalent of a MOT, assuming it has one.

Best of Luck!
I would double check about the MOT, I had to MOT mine anyway, I'm only assuming Irish MOT is fine... its not like its a 3rd world country.....

I'd never been there before but found it very like Cornwall. Some cracking roads, where I got to push the limits of the Fiat Panda hire car! (which was surprisingly good and sounded better than you'd expect!) Plan to make a weekend of it, when I go pick up the M3.

How did you find the car you're buying?

It was advertised, but I also know some friends of the seller via s14.net and Pistonheads, so was able to check provenance and condition.
