The question that you should be asking is;powelly wrote:.... if the option had been there I would have got another i'm not ordering 6!!!
'Are there 5 other owners of C2 out there who need a genuine Alpina exhaust?'
i have a standard system with a scoropion back box, cant compare it to a standard back box as is was like that wheni bought it, but i love the sound ! its not too loud or obtrusive and fairly quiet when pottering along/cruising, but has an awsome sound when you give it some

My car had a Peco! it did sound very "full race" but once it rusted out it made my ears bleed.Kos wrote:You'd love a Peco BB4pony wrote:I don't let what people think bother me as long as I am enjoying myselfBrianmoooore wrote: Do you really want to drive around with everybody looking and thinking "what a complete and utter prat"?
The best sounding 325i I ever heard was the Gug.

You won't hear a proper OEM sound from barrys as he's running a 6 branch. It changes the note.pony wrote:Haha I thought my comments would be a bit marmite
I want to hear what an original BMW exhaust sounds like.
Hopefully Barry will take me for a drive sometime in his Sport
You'd be better listening to Powellys.
anyone got a decent sound clip of a standard Alpina? haven't heard one for ages. its a shame they are uber $$$'s.
i think it was an eisenman (spelling) i heard and it sounded pretty good same with Stebro/Sebring?

+1 I have this system mated to a BTB six branch and it sounds lovely. Quiet and restrained when cruising and on the motorway but when it comes on cam after at around 3500 rpm it sounds absolutely savage. I was also very happy with the fit and finish.MattTheHat325 wrote:I've got a fritz bits 6 branch stainless manifold and full system on my 325, haven't had much trouble with it. I changed the whole lot in one go so I can't comment on the power/sound improvements of the system or manifolds individually, but it all seemed to make a difference on mine. Never RR'd either before or after so have no clue about power increases. I'm also using one of speedtouch's 'wild' chips (albeit it with a standard top end) and the car has a vicious input of torque at around 3500 rpm and seems to pull /rev very hard from there on in, which it didn't do before.
It was a fair bit of coin, but seems well put together. My only gripe is that the tailpipes could be a tiny bit closer together but they have grown on methey are quite long aswell, but I kind of like that! IMHO would look better on a non m-tech bumper end car.

GUG at full chat was indeed niceKos wrote:You'd love a Peco BB4pony wrote:I don't let what people think bother me as long as I am enjoying myselfBrianmoooore wrote: Do you really want to drive around with everybody looking and thinking "what a complete and utter prat"?

Me, I've got a stainless Scorpion rear box, all the rest standard. It sounds ( or did when i last drove it two years ago) very nice indeed, great tones without the looks of dissaprovemnet from the general public. The missus is happy to drive it as well so it must be fine
In the past I have had on a different 325i a straight through Cherry Bomb exhaust, now this was proper ear damagingly loud, but did increase performance without question. I just looked or rather sounded, like a knob. But I was only 19 or 20. I don't think now at 37 on the school run it would look very clever!

X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...
do you like your much despised Hottuning manifold?daimlerman wrote:BMW spent millions in R and D,and pretty much got things right.
However,Alpina and other well respected tuners managed to get more out of the M20 with head fettling(talk to Simon13)and different exhaust systems.
Stock system from the dealer will not be a cheap option, but will fit perfectly and 'sound' right.
I have used aftermarket systems from GSF on both of my E30's,one is now well into it's 6th year and is married to the much despised Hottuning manifold.
I'm in the minority here, but I do love the howl from my Scorpion at certain parts of the rev range. It is a bit embarressing when driving around town as you do feel a bit of a c0ck if you have to pull out of a junction sharpish as the noise attracts unwanted attention and glances, but out on the motorway/tunnels/long country roads, the reverb is most excellent. Full stainless 6 branch and system ftw
Mine isn't a daily and it would be a bit drony for everyday commuting, but the build quality is good and mine has done a few thousand miles over the past 7yrs without a hitch.
I'd stick with a genuine full system on a daily though as the standard 6 pot rumble is still glorious

if there wern't people like me,

Is that right??? The whole system for just £1k.... It would be wortha group buy methinksSimon13 wrote:The fact that the original exhaust lasted so ling says it all really compared to the aftermarket.
My old 325i sport was i sold in about 2006 had its original exhaust, still not rotton. It wasn't the only one about like that.
Alpina systems are mainly NLA but if they get 6 orders then they're about £1000
Mine sounds quite 'heavy' on my 2.5, I'd love to hear the same on an M30DanThe wrote:The scorpion sounds much better on a bigger cc engine IMO

scorpion plus a racing dynamics 6 branch, almost sounds V8. Its my only inspiration to get my e30 going again is the noise!
Although i'll be using an alpina back box which i'm sure will add some more bass

I've a scorpion center and rear box on the M52 and i've never heard anything like it. I bought the center section new and i think it's just a hollow box, sounds it when you tap it anyway
It's pretty quiet at idle but everywhere else is pretty offensive. Overkill for a daily drive imo and yes everybody thinks you're a cunt but...when giving it some chicken it's great, get a lovely pop when changing 2nd through to 3rd and bangs on the overrun.
Will be looking to change to a larger bore exhaust soon and try tone it done a little for motorway duties.

Used rear Ste? I fitted a newly purchased centre and rear to an M52 last spring time and it sounded fine, couldnt knock it at all.
I ran a used rear box and new centre for over 60k miles on my original M50 conversion, it also covered approx 3k on the iron 2.8 I built and 2 or 3k on the 3.2 Alpina donkey. It was an old stock centre though, so better built than the new stuff, sounded great 100% of the time

Im sure some of the centre section is hollow on Scorpions to act as a resonator (howl)
My M3 Scorpion system has two centre boxes, one is a normal silencer but the one in front is hollow.

Yes rear is used. Though all the noise comes from the centre I'm sure. The £600 fritz system is where my money will be going, the rear box is smaller too so I hope will tuck in nicely behind the standard rear valance. At the moment it looks a bit silly but you can't see it from the captains seat.
I'd love a proper angled tail pipe rear box. Not the jaunty facelift style but a 35 degree bugger.

4200rpm on mine is just great- such wonderful resonance. Rubbish if you wish to hold a conversation or like listening to music, but who cares. Great soundtrack...leeparkes wrote:Im sure some of the centre section is hollow on Scorpions to act as a resonator (howl)

My cabby has a scorpion system fitted (by the previous owner) Must admit, it's a bit too loud for my liking and I don't like the attention..!
