So I found a 325is with 60k on the clock in my area. It's all stock and supposedly never driven in the winter. The guy is asking 8k however and after doing a KBB its valued at about 2.5k with retail on it being about 3.2k. What would u guys pay for something like this, I'd like to leave some cash left over for mods as i plan to learn how to tune by doing everything myself, Thanks.

that's what i was thinking. Do you think this guy is just uninformed, or do you think he knows and is going to be a stickler.

Mines got 70k on it ,prob not worth more than Ԛ£4k at the best
buy one with higher mileage and good spec for less money, then you have money left to play with it.

well i am also in the US if that changes much, doubt it. I was thinking that I would present the guy with the print outs of kbb and whatnot to show what its value really is then try and work from there. In the end i plan to spend about 12k which will hopefully include a turbo so the low mileage engine is appealing. Plus these cars are surprisingly tough to come by around my area.
I was also wondering, I'm not too fond of the alluminum or whatever bumpers. Can i simply swap a front and rear clip from a new e30 and do away with the older styled bumper.

if your going to fit a turbo and spend 12k your going to rebuild the engine to do it properly so low mileage doesnt matter just find one in good condition!

You can only swap out the aluminum style bumpers for plastic ones if the car is a 1988 model. Prior to 1988 they came with a different front bumper assembly. Check out this thread http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=41969ineedanE30 wrote: I was also wondering, I'm not too fond of the alluminum or whatever bumpers. 60K miles for an E30 325is is very rare here in the states, much rarer than in the UK. People in the US tend to drive longer distances I think, so most of the E30s you find have 175K and more on the clock. Also the pricing for these cars is different than in the UK. 8K is actually probably pretty close to what it's worth, but it would have to be really clean.
For questions on pricing consider posting on this website http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/ this is a very good E30 BMW site based in the US, but be warned, these guys can be a bit harsh to new comers.

just because it says all that means squat
if that car was MINT it would be more money for sure and the chances are not neeed to be advertised to be sold
cars that have been on here and are mint sell within hours
ask billgates about simons old one
people wer queueing for that car
why?
because it was /is mint and because they are rare in mint condition they will be snapped up by people who know that they just are not out there to buy in abundance
do you think that car is 4ks worth?
dream on.i looked at over 30 sports before i bought my last one
all were "minters" just like that one advertised there!!
you may ask why i took issue with your initial statement
its because it is misinformed and people see it and say to themselves that must be the case then
well its not the case and that needs to be clarified
no offence intended at all
but 4k for a MINT sport is a lottery win.not an every day possibility
john

your point is that there are some nice sports out there for 3k
accepted i agree with you
but you use\the term MINT too loosely
that car was an auto which does make a difference on its value

I've got to agree with John on this one sorry, you may get lucky and find an owner that hasn't got a clue, then yes, you can get lucky, but cars with low miles mean nothing, John..remember that red one with 55k on the clock? For the miles you'd expect mint, but it wasn't, all that!

Look at my car now, 74k FBMWSH.....seat is like its never been sat in.
I say you got very good, mint and then immaculate.
Some minor marks can be found on mint but thats about it in my eyes!

so what about bodywork, paintwork, wheels, lifed components such as hydraulic cylinders/hoses etc
how well finished is it under neath, under the bonnet ect
what is the brakes like, suspension and bushes etc
it takes more than FSH and nice seats to be truly mint

Go out there and look at them then come back and say that!!
I think there's a few of us on here that can say we dis-agree with experience.
I for one, John as said above looked at quite a few, and so did Mark aka splondike.

Ive been dealing with E30's now for 7 years! Was going to start a business about E30's. Ive had at least two year for that period at I admit not all were mint but not one cost near 4K more like half that, so on my OWN experience...........Thats what I THINK.....Mint Sport could be had in this country for no more than 4K.
I picked up my 323i, and that was mint.....for Ԛ£200
Sold it for a grand! Wish I had kept it but needs must!
Im not going to tell anybody what I paid for my cab because it might upset people but it was cheap too!
Bodywork, Paintwork, Wheels, components, cylinders/hoses etc all count too
Im a qualified mechanic so I know a little bit about what to look for!
Brakes and the like, Suspension and Bushes etc is all in the eye!
Remember, this is all my OPINION!

all you have described does not make mintstevetigger wrote:Look at my car now, 74k FBMWSH.....seat is like its never been sat in.

it means it has done 74k has been serviced by bmw and the seat isnt worn
that iam afraid does not make a mint car
have you physically looked at any of these cars you are describing as mint??
no.pull the bumper off at the back
pull the kit off and take a look
here lies the difference.
simons car i know had kit taken off and it was perfect underneath.not bodged, filled and flogged but originally as it should have been.
find me another sport that when the kit is dropped off looks like it never had one fitted.....................oh and tell me its under 4k
not happening
speak to karan about what can lay beneath the dreaded mtec2
i kind of understand what you are saying but you are using the wrong terminology
people use thye word "mint" to freely and i for one have spent days and 1000s of pounds looking at cars that people have sworn to me on their grannies eyeballs are mint
only to do a 500 mile trek to find i wouldnt give it a dog to sleep in
yes simon i remember the 55k sport
red 6 k he wanted
sounded the boy
went to look
rusty arches,door buckled
seat back hangin off
vgc is the term you are looking for
john

It's only in the last 4 years that the E30, especially the nicer examples like the sport/M3 have become affordable though, I've got loads of old BMW mags, and if you take a look at the prices for E30's back in the year 2000, they were upwards of 6-7k, only since the price has dropped, and they've become affordable, have they fallen into the wrong hands, been thrashed, and are no longer mint.
If you want mint, go and take a look at some of the Sports WLN have, or have had in stock, none there for under 6k.

My Black Auto, had to take the kit off, just dirt! Wish I had taken photo's and you know how much I bought it for! There is a rule to follow when finding "MiNt" cars, I dont use the word loosely....maybe other people in the country do! I know "mint" Just by talking on the phone for one hour with the seller!c76jon wrote:find me another sport that when the kit is dropped off looks like it never had one fitted.....................oh and tell me its under 4k
We might have to agree to disagree or this thread will run forever! All I said in the first place is you can buy "mint" for no more than 4k TRUE
Agreed?? Im not saying you cant spend more and get "showroom"

So he sells them for 6k, where do you think he bought them?? From the public for alot less or he would go out of business!!Simon wrote:If you want mint, go and take a look at some of the Sports WLN have, or have had in stock, none there for under 6k.

This is not the case actually, he sells them on behalf of clients, as everytime I have phoned him to enquire about the car, he's always says he doesn't have the car with him, and that they're still with the owner, and he will have to arrange to get the car to a location for viewing.stevetigger wrote:So he sells them for 6k, where do you think he bought them??
