Subframe reinforcment

Where or who sells front subframe reinforcement plates.
was thinking of making my own not sure .
what size plate is used ? 3mm?

There are a couple of places in America that sell subframe reinforcement kits.

I'm guessing they're kits will be 2-3mm thick.

Thanks , I found AKG's ones on there site but there also in america .
Would i get stung with any import tax on them do you think?

Maybe attempt to make my own using cardboard templates.

Im sure there was someone on here selling some at one point , maybe DanThe :/

Couldn't comment on import tax as have not really bought anything from America.

I've started re in forcing trailing arms, arb mounts and I'm making new diff mounts. Making it all myself. Get more satisfaction. Have used some ideas from over the pond. Not took any photos though

well ive seen a few cracked subframes on non abused e30's .

I used 2mm plate for mine, which IMHO is plenty thick enough. 3mm is also a fair bit harder to work with. Like all these types of jobs, it takes longer than you'd think knocking these up to a half decent standard!

I use 2mm as well. I get a batch of plates water-jetted every so often and then weld them on to a few sandblasted subframes and drop them back for powder-coating then

I done the first couple of sets by hand with the grinder and drill and they do take quite a while alright!

3mm is definitely too thick to work with easily, at least for the bottom plate that bridges the engine mount wing to the subframe.

3mm would be fine for the piece that sits in flat to where the mount bolts to but 2mm plus the thickness of the subframe is plenty as you'll break somewhere else before it'll fail there again.
