There was one on yesterday, done 72k, for £3k. Then when you read further down it was a CAT C, but the owner seemed to think it was for engine damage as he couldn't find any evidence of previous repair. Is this possible?

Was definitely up for £1000. No mention of cat C. Had no picture. Just seemed all a bit to good to be true. Is there any reason for fake ads?

Maybe so you phone premium rate numbers? Or am I just going off on conspiracy theorys ha! I reckon someone was either having an early april fools or really didnt know what they had. Someone would have though!

Mmmmmm. May ask them. 6days old though IF is genuine probably gone, especially berkshire. dodgy dealers up there. No phone number so could be safe but then is an 'old man' going to use mail?

Thought maybe genuine because if dodgy dealer would have thought theyd put a dodgy mot on it but thought would do text check on reg. Says 'no DVLA or police record found for G91 VUL' and i didnt get charged, bonus :)

I think dodge, stay clear!

It is possible to claim through insurance for engine damage for example if the car has been driven though water and sucked some in causing a hydraulic lock and damaging the engine internally.

I've replaced a couple of N47 engines in E90's because of this.

Where i work now, one of the techs once upon a time had to replace an engine, both front seats, body loom, carpet and various control units on a 6 month old E60 V10 M5 because the woman that owned it drove through a ford and flooded the interior and hydraulic locked the engine!

Written off Cat C and D's can be put on cars not just for body damage.

Some times when cars are stolen and recovered with various parts missing that have been striped off and sold can also make the car uneconomical to repair using new parts which an insurance company would only use.

This was quite common back in the day when RS turbos and cosworths were getting nicked and things like the recaro interiors, body kits and wheels where getting removed and sold.

A lot of cars that have suffered even relatively minor flooding are written off cat B these days. So much low down electronics/connections in the cabin on modern cars that the insurance companies won't take the risk of problems showing up in the future.

Disgusting waste really and in these days of environmental awareness frankly just shameful. A clear sign of what's wrong with our disposable consumer\business driven culture.
