Far too many breakers recently

Maybe itÔš's just me, but I have noticed that more and more people are breaking E30s.

Rather than just take it to the scrap yard, and pay for the privilege of them taking it off your hands, people are ripping them to bits and selling the parts.

There appears to be a new car in the for sale section each and every day being raped for bits! And itÔš's only recently started too (last few weeks)

Are they at that age when people decide they are no longer worth fixing, or are people just too lazy to fix them?

i think its reached the point where many non roadworthy cars aren't financially viable to fix, but there is a profit to be made by breking what is there for others to fix thier roadworthy cars. its bound to happen at somepoint in time

its not a matter of people having time for them, its just they can qualify spending so much restoring one when a good one can be bought for a fraction of the cost, especailly when there is such a profit top be made from spliting it.

I have noticed this also. As we get more members we got more breakers. Also people may be realising what they can make/ cash for christmas?! Its a pitty if there not ready for it. Also e30's are getting older, and more are ready to break i guess.

i suspect the price a E30 can be picked up for is a lot less than the parts you may need to repair one problem properly.

i just paid Ԛ£250ish for a 318i to get the bumpers, wings, front panel and wings. they're all in good enough nick and the right colour to allow me to just fit them. the pattern panels alone would have been more than that!

it is a shame though and in 10 years time i'll be kicking/hating myself for it!

a few weeks ago people were saying that nothing was available and now have we got too much!?!

its just the way it pans out, but winter time there seems to be more mainly because there seem to be more accidents in the shit weather. a mate who's a breaker has had 3 tasty cars com in this week alone, but for the last few months there was nothing. every year is the same stock up in the winter sell in the summer!!

if it wasnt for breakers most of our cars would be scrapped as we couldnt afford to repair them so shhh!!!! lol

i hate taking cars to a breaker,last one was a fiesta and i totaly stripped that and took the wheels off once it was on the trailer and i had to pay him, i cut the shell into 4 pieces on the last E30 i no longer wanted and took the pieces in turn and weighed them in,didnt get a fortune but its better than paying someone for doing the same

The only reason for this glut of breakers is because we are all willing to buy parts and fix the cars ourseelves. If we were still paying garages to fix them then there wouldn't be such a good market for second hand engines diffs gearboxes etc. I think it's good because everyone who bus parts must have an E30 to put them on so there are still plenty out there.

My other half is breaking the love of his life simply because we cant afford to keep her now that I am not working, especially with xmas round the corner.

I was gonna break the e30 i sold to scott325SE, the garage wanted Ԛ£500+ to fix it. I'm breaking a rover with a blown headgasket cos the garage wanted Ԛ£475 to fix it. and I sent my micra to the scrappy cos a garage wanted Ԛ£300 for new seat belts and to fix the wing to get it thru its MOT.

Garages are charging silly money for things now, so lots of cars are going to e30 heaven. the garage where My Dad works charges Ԛ£25 an hour for Bodywork, but mechanical work is Ԛ£40 an hour!

i hate taking cars to a breaker,last one was a fiesta and i totaly stripped that and took the wheels off once it was on the trailer and i had to pay him, i cut the shell into 4 pieces on the last E30 i no longer wanted and took the pieces in turn and weighed them in,didnt get a fortune but its better than paying someone for doing the same

That reminds me.... Me + Dad once cut up an mgb with an angle grinder...... week by week we put it in the wheely bin!!

I'm debating whether to buy a 325 se ( head gone ) for Ԛ£150 ,excellent body and putting in another engine , but then after all that work what would be the value and would anyone want it so i think it would be easier to buy to break but then the effort in breaking then selling on isn't worth it , so hence another repairable e30 goes to get recycled I've noticed on e bay that the prices are dropping for certain items as they become less rare ie m tech 1 s/wheels . 325 engines are now going in the opposite direction price wise as good ones are getting rarer
