I have a 318 Tourer with an MOT due soon. Had bit of a poke about underneath in preparation and found sizeable holes in both rear inner arches, some rust bubbles on the sills and rear chassis legs. There may be more but I got a bit fed up after that :) On top of that it'll need a new exhaust, fuel fill pipe and its also started leaking oil from somewhere.

I'm really not sure where to go from here hence the post. I could fix all the above but have a horrible feeling I'll discover yet more rust once I start to dig deeper. Not sure its worth spending the time on but at the same time it seems too good to break up. I have two other project cars that I should be working on, this is supposed to be the reliable daily car :)

I bought it cheap thinking I could frag it once it got to the point it wouldn't pass an MOT, however that was 3 years ago and I've got a bit attached to it now :)

I suppose the question is, would it be worth more as parts or a 318 with a 12 month ticket on it?

spose youd need to post pics and full details and history etc to get an mot`d value, but if you only bought it cheap and got 3 years out of it, then maybe break and sell all the panels and every morsel or keep them all for spares and buy another one thats maybe more solid underneath

maybe weigh up the approx cost to fix it all up and buy everything you need inc mot and exhaust etc and man hours, and have a look around for others (comparing prices with yurs with an mot and fixed) and deduct that cost from the price and the parts youd sell/keep from the other, and see what your looking at

There's only one good answer I find when a car has holes - can you weld? If you can't, chances are you'll pay through the nose for repairs.
I was quoted £200 for three miniscule patches on my E28 that were found during the MOT. Another bodyshop refused point blank to touch it. Another one said they couldn't fit it in for three weeks.
