There was no such thing as an M323i
You can only get 4 door "M" E30's from certain areas of Birmingham
and only then from a certain type of seller
You could have a 4 door 323i with an Auto box
Later model tail lights will not fit a pre-facelift shell without a ridiculous and pointlessly expensive amount of work
Putting the later M Tech 2 bumpers and kit on a pre-facelift shell is just plain wrong.
The M Tech 1 Kit was made specifically for the earler shell and is the only kit that looks right.
Sounds like the car you're looking at isnt right for you if thats what you want to do to it.

im in south africa and i asked the local BMW dealers if there was a m323i or 323im and they said u could order a 323i with the m kit that included a m teck steering wheel either a 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual gearbox with a LSD 323 ratio and with a removed rev limiter but found no evidence on the net to suport the dealers theory. However the car has got a lsd 4 speed auto the wheel and no revlimiter... so im lost
no it's a slush box, first registered on the 7th march 83, lots of rust but it will be saved.capri_rob wrote:Has it got a manual gearbox ? - if so thats probably what it relates to.bigdoe wrote:i've just bought a y reg 323i that is discribed in the owners handbook as a 323im

im thinking of the mtec 1 kit i kinda like the old school look but would prefer it with a manual trany. i bought the car in fair condition for 6500 rand. thats roughly 650 pounds it needed a torque converter seal and a batery to run cosmeticaly just a phew minor surface rust spots here and there. so i resprayed it in the original blue metalic after it got rubed down and de rusted. im contemplating either a alphina body kit or a 333i body kit with the 17inch alphina mags

It seems that BMW authorised their distributors in a few countries to create 'M' branded special editions of their vehicles - a bit like the UK 'Sport' model. But, like the Sports, the changes are relatively minor compared to a standard model, and are generally available as options in any case.Frany wrote:im in south africa and i asked the local BMW dealers if there was a m323i or 323im and they said u could order a 323i with the m kit that included a m teck steering wheel either a 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual gearbox with a LSD 323 ratio and with a removed rev limiter but found no evidence on the net to suport the dealers theory. There was an Australian M528i E28 that causes heated debate round the forums from time to time as to whether it's a genuine 'M-car' or not. It's not. Like your car, or the UK/US M535i, it's an early milestone in the transition from 'Motorsport' functionality to 'Motorsport' branding.
i keep up with a 2door 325i auto 4 speed thats fit so im prety shure it has some m parts in it and all service history shows in my "m" 323i is its regular services. also had it on the rollers and it put out a healthy 121kw and 177nm torque. if im not mistaken the standard 323i developed 105 - 110 kw ? so i defenately have more power than a standard one so i suspect im might be a unoficial M car. specs also are roughly the same as the log book though the log book claims more kw from the moter. guess age lowerd mines output a bit. but i kinda prefer having a manual trany in it. as for a genuine M car the dealers thinks it is,,, i knw a phew onoficial M cars that were made in Pretoria By Bmw SA and no evidence of them on the net either. eg u got the reare 333i with the 3.3l engen but later a m333i was made with a 3.5l engen and hotted up cams output was 178+- kw and no aircon was availible for that version. My bmw also origenates from that verry factory so it might not be a oficial global or german M car but it shure runs and revs like one
