screen out, wings off, check the holes at the bottom of where the rubber sits are clear sand back any bubbling and if not too bad remove with sandpaper. treat with krust then fill, sand, fill. sand, clean with prepaint then lightly apply primer, bit more primer. then get a good painter to finish.
where are you based?

or to have nil rust move to florida, oz, california or Bahrain :thumb:

There should be a sticker on the n/s suspension turret with the colour and code number.

looks like lazer blue.

that scuttle bit could be a whole lot worse once you have poked around a bit more. that is holed, you can bet the corrosion on the back is a couple of inches across. looks like its gone through at the corner, once you have the wing off check the hole through to the heater box, looks like that could be corroded too.

could be a tricky one.

If the scuttle is as bad as that there will be more hidden else where. Front jacking points, sills, front and rear inner arches, bulk head and rear battery tray all very common places for they old turds. Sunroof try if you have one needs inspection. I am not saying it will but check all these places before you start repairing this area.

As my earlier post or even Col's SCRAP it or BURN it if you find any other issues. :D

Thing is it has been resprayed at some point. Jacking points are mint arches perfect. Its had new springs/shocks boot has no rust. Sunroof has some surface rust in some spots but have treated this and plan on repairing it in the summer.
Im not going to throw it away at the first bit of rust. Esp as its my first motor.
gonna have the wing off this weekend to have a look see. fingers crossed eh.
Cheers for your info/help

If you're going to take the wing off, get some Panel Sealer (comes in a tube, like bathroom silicon sealant) so that when you put the wing back on it's sealed properly. Otherwise your inner wing will rust out too (like mine has!)

Will do mate(Y) Just checked my car colour and its Lazurblau Metallic. A quick look in the old halfrauds to find they don't do it, only bloody topaz blue:/
while i was there i got some kruust.
Just a quick question because the halfauds staff in cardiff are thick as foook. Are all car primers ZINC based?
Cheers

Nah, zinc primer is used on bare metal because it bonds to the metal electrically. You'd generally slap a general (acrylic) primer on top of that before you put on the paint, and then your colour coat and then clearcoat (because you're doing metallic.)

Zinc primer isn't necessary, but it's definitely beneficial.

Halfords can generally mix up any paint you want if you ask at the parts desk, either as an aerosol or touch up brush,I was suprised when they mixed up some sahara beige for my 02 and it was a perfect match.
Don't be put off by the scrap it/torch it brigade ,E30's are old cars now, with a finite example left on the roads, true there are probably more solid examples out there, but I thought this was a forum for enthusiasts ?
Enthusiasts don't want to destroy the very thing they are supposed to cherish

Must be a BMW thing,as I found the same on the E21 forum.
