My girlfriend who unfortunately does not drive & also knows nothing about cars... (when we met three years ago, the first few weeks were a bit intense, as I tried to make her understand that doors will close without being slammed etc) does not mind me spending hours taking cleaning etc as she enjoys the compliments I get from passers by about the car's condition, also likes that it does not look like a 20 year old design inside.

She also loves convertibles, says the E30 is the best looking by far, especially roof down.

My mrs loves mine and got genuinely upset when I was nearly forced to sell up. (Thank god I didn't!)

On the other hand I've had to rely on my mum to drive it a few times and all she does is moan about the 'truck steering wheel' and heftyness of the controls etc. Having said that I sit there cringing when she shifts up as soon as it hits 2k RPM  hearing your car chug and under rev that badly is painful!

My mrs likes my sport alot and it has fond memories attached to it (inc the back seat! winkeye). She also used to use the car regularly when it was used as a daily car.

She doesnt like the amount of money i have spent on it though!

My chick is an old school Mini lover so gets the 'cut of my jib' with regards to old cars of a particular flavour. She wont drive it though. She claims that if she were to have a mishap that her life wouldn't be worth living.

God knows where she gets that idea from...

LOL! I am so with you there! My wife use to walk up to the car and put her handbag on the roof, then drag the bukle accross the nicly polished paint work! As you can imagine she soon got the idea that I didn't appreciate that! She also did the same with shopping on the boot lid.

Wor Lass isn't into cars, they're just a box with 4 wheels and a means to an end to her.

Having said that, she's very tolerant of the E30 and looks upon it as my hobby.

She doesn't drive it very often, and when she does she says "it runs away with" her. But she has confessed that she enjoys it when I accelerate hard down motorway on-ramps.

My other half drives a lachs silver E30 325i tourer and she loves it (apart from fuel consumption)
The cambelt went a while back on a new purchase and when the RAc man turned up he when into "explaining to women mode" and she starts asking whether he thinks any off the valves will have been bent on contact with the pistons etc.... his face was priceless

When our last newish car was writen off I had always wanted a touring but the wife didn't , so I bought one anyway . The first she knew about it was when I arrived home in it , she was not amused with me buying a car ten years older than our last one . If it wasn't for the kids and the telly I could of thought I had gone deaf as she didn't speak to me for a week . Then she drove it , but it wasn't the performance or the handling she liked . It was an auto which she had never had before , it had enough space in the back for all here junk and she could see all four corners . She was amazed that when she squeezed it in to a parking space there was still room around her . That car is now hers and five years on she will not part with it and I have two more and our son has one . .

I should have added to my post above that recently, when I was thinking bad thoughts about going E36, Wor Lass said "well, why don't you buy an E36 and I'll have the E30 - that way you get to have both".

I nearly took her up on it.

Of the '89 convertible, "It's lovely. But why can't we have a car that doesn't smell of the 1980s?"

And sitting in the passenger seat of the M635, "Why are all those men looking at me?"

My Girlfriend likes mine, and the fact I enjoy fixing/upgrading/tinkering with it, but she won't get in the passenger seat with me driving as she is a very nervous passenger. Which is good in a way, as she will always drive if we are going somewhere together so I can  winkeye

Black 4-door 325i with leather. She loves it, especially the 'S' mode on the auto... LOL.

If she asks nicely I will install the rear blind and M-tech II wheel (thanks Kos and Ata)

Mrs and kids mourn the passing of the white 4 door in my sig as it was the daily 'family car' that took us on holidays etc, basically everywhere, the black chromie is also loved but not as much as it doesnt come out of the garage a lot.

Any moaning about time/money spent on cars is simply replied with "would you rather I spend the time/money in the pub" ?? :)
