There is a chance that a good bodyshop is a bad mechanic and vice versa.

Where are you based?

I do the welding and nuts and bolts.

Although I can and do paint, I have no spraybooth so I'd not attempt the repaint in-house, I have 3 very good painters, all with all the required equipment for a great finish, one is cheap and fast, the other is cheapish and fast , the last is not cheap nor fast but you can swim in the paint finish afterwards :D, all would remove the car from my site and use theirs as you' d expect.

BBB offer similar, their paint guy is over the road iirc.

thanks lads!

i'm in Scarborough at the mo, but i travel for work for the summer, the car will be stored in town here until September, that's when i want to get started, money is not really an object but i will have a budget in mind..

the car is a 316 pre facelift racing green chromie with 24k on the clock, in perfect order..
i want it immaculate and original (IE no body kit), full respray engine bay included is first in mind, while the engine is out i would like to have it painted also, all oil gaskets changed, plugs, hoses new and shiny, i think i will lower it 20mm also.. would it be best to spray/ rust proof underside at the same time as upper?
not sure how much extra hassle this might be.. no rust is surfacing yet..
as for power increase.. i think i might look toward air and fuel delivery .. any ideas for m10..

the car is SORN at the mo.. if your capable, reasonably priced and good and would like the work your welcome to come to have a look to see. 8O
proven track record for revamps of course... not really sure where to start with this but any ideas welcome...

thanks :D

It is good, means it is deep.

Surely for all that hassle you would be going for concours rather than modified though?

thanks ross

yeah, concours is kinda what i had in mind, i don't want it to look like a molested hunk a metal, sleek & clean.... like a new car,
i chose the 4 door 316 rather than a coupe..
it is a 1.8 m10, but we all like a little more kick! any of you guys know tuning or mods to the engine that would make it a pull like the m42.. ?

you can turbo the m10 quite niceley but is you carb or injected as with carbarettor models so mdification is require to make fuel injected
depends what you are after concours i would recommend it stays orginal to the spec sheet from factory :D HTH

anything is possible you are now going old skool with high lift cams better intake, larger carb etc
but ther is a slight flaw.
i am led believe that a carb car does not have the provision in the fuel system to make it fuel injected plus the wiring etc is also not there
i am not the familar to na tuning without fuel injection so my knowledge is limited i am afraid
have a look on the website www.fastbimmer.co.uk this is A-tech website some good projects in the gallery including mine.
HTH
cheers

What Will said. Old school car; old school tuning. When I was a young'un I had an old car that I did this sort of thing to...bags of fun! Balanced and blue-printed, ridiculous cam, twin carbs rejetted to suit, modded inlet manifold, custom exhaust, heavy duty clutch, ported and polished heads...fantastic. :) The powerband was 4500-7000rpm but it would spin all day to 7500rpm without any problem whatsoever.

I am just waiting for the M10 fanbois to come along and regale us with tedious tales of how p1ssing on a M10 block and attaching a turbo gives you 1500 BHP @ the spare wheel ! :D

You mean it's not true?! I'm shocked! :)

I thought pissing on the block when a load of German beer was drunk was the secret to unleashing the horsies.
