There's a few on here who have converted struts by that method,Myself included.
It's relatively easy to do.

My parts are from a VAOS kit intended for a Ford Focus and have alloy tubes which use 2 1/2" ID springs.
If using 51mm strut casings you NEED to make sure that the internal diameter of the tubes are eqaul to or greater than the OD of the strut otherwise they won't slip over.
Try Compbrake as an alternative to Rally Design.Sometime they have the 2 1/4" kits at 1/2 price or less.
Here's mine prior to painting

i forgot about compbrake. i've not seen their coilover parts in the 'flesh' but when i last looked, the did seem to be nice bits of kit.
the rally design ones were being cast for a while but a re much nicer and machined these days.
faulkner springs dave?
i popped in there a while back to get the springs for mine (7" long 2a" OD 500lb) and they were on the shelf.
his places is essentially a shed his his parents garage (set up by his father back in the day). however this is a massive (50 foot+?) shed with an unbelievable stock of springs, all sat on shelves floor to ceiling!

i had coil binding on 6" 500lb springs resulting in a broken coil
the change to a 7" spring makes a huge difference, it actually has some suspension travel now and as i've dropped the platform 1", it has the same ride height

The alloy parts sits on the trailing arm where the normal ballon type rear spring normally sits. and there's a top hat which goes between the top of the spring and the "normal" top retaining Knob on the chassis.dt520 wrote:does the silver part get welded to the damper then on the back and use the original top mount
They are used with conventional dampers

The coilovers were purchased direct from the manufacturer at a one off discounted rate to certain individuals.
These were part of a VAOS(US company)coilover conversion kit intended for a Ford Focus which I acquired for much cheapness.

I used the front threaded tubes on a pr of 51mm strut casings, kept both the 350Lb and 450Lb springs ,and sold on the rear adjustable bases to a zone member
