I've had more than 12,000 miles out of my toyo t1r's with a mm to go before the wear markers, including 25 laps of the ring, and always being driven hard!!!

Can anyone suggest how to test if the boot lights are staying on with the boot shut?

i've used falken 912s and don't rate them at all. my turbines had a pair of toyos on the front and 912s on the back, lots of fun, but very little grip! swapped them round and it was horribly understeery.
the falkens also wore out quicker, and were more expensive! hence i've gone back to toyos all round on the various sets of wheels i run.
the falkens also chunked really badly on the trackday i did.

When I was at the nurburgring, at least, and I'm not joking half of the cars in the car park had 4 matching toyo t1rs. . .

Ive had the Falken 912's (205/50/R15) on for a month now and im loving them, not had any problems so far and look good (Toyo's do look a little better though). I nealry went for the Toyo's but I heard they would only do around 10k miles on the rear so I went with the Falkens, which are supposed to do more

hmmmm mixed reviews there on both tyres !!
how many k are the falkens supposed to be good for ?
the falkens, abit over alot less total miles, seem a bit better going on the reviews
i like this review, as its winter comming, and it is my 1st rwd car,i need to get this choice right...
"What is often missed is that these are all seasons tyres and so should outperform standard tyres in the cold & wet"
and are the toyo more of a track type tyre ? or also a good winter/all season tyre ?

Toyo T1-rs are a great all round tyre.
Toyo R888s are the track type tyre
Which funnily enough aren't actually that bad in the wet either considering they are more or less slicks

M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream
so its toyo t1-rs vs the falken 912`s
what are the pros/cons of each then ?
just seems a lot of conflicting and different thoughts !
need to decide by tomorrow, as hopefully il be able to get some fitted if they have them in stock , or order for sat arvo !

well reading on here, and tyre reviews , it seems theres not a clear cut better of the 2, and both offer slightly different things
the toyos wont last long ppl pay but have good dry grip and they sound like a fave for track use (which im not using them for) and was chatting to a mate of mine earlier and he had them on his golf and said he had about 7k/a year out of some, but give good grip , but the falkens will last longer, and are a goood tyre in the wet and rain and all seasons ? ...which is appealing with the winter months ahead, would that be about right ?
im going to bed now, but il ring round local places tomorrow and see who has what in stock and the best price i can blag for them both

A 318iS is much better balanced and tyres will last far longer.
I've had a good few different tyres on my iS and the best so far has been Goodyear GSD3s and Toyo T1rs
I've had P6000s in my time too and they are shocking!

ive just had a ring round of every local place, and none have toyos and quote me £70-£80 each
, i can get 2 falken 912s fitted this arvo for £128 , have a feeling i could blag 120 cash
its either that or order the toys from ctyres.co.uk
,or a place has got kumho ku31 , he reckons are better than the falkens, but he wud say that anyway, what are they like ?

khumo = shite
falkens = ok budget tyre
toyos = good allrounder, great performance for the money.
toyo tyre life is fine, like any tyre the more like a twat you drive the quicker they'll wear, when people fit them as performance tyres theres bound to be people that wear them out quickly!
my mrs mk2 gti has had a set of t1-rs on for well over a year now and they still look virtually new!
i had a set of wheels with toyo t1-r on one pair and falken 912 on the other, they toyos had already had 3 or 4 months use before they were swapped at the same time as fitting the brand new falkens, all 4 have come to the end of their life at the same time, which suggests to me that the falkens wear quicker. i also found that whatever end they were fitted to had less grip than the end with the toyos.
don't get me wrong, the falkens aren't death traps, but i wouldnt class them as performance tyres either.
camskill.co.uk (who have been brilliant every time i've used them) list 205 50 15 t1-r at £47.20 each, or 205 55 15 at £52.25 each. my local tyre fitters charge £9 a wheel for a valve, fit and balance which would bring them to about the same as the falkens from your tyre place.

okm now im leaning towards the toyos, seems a lot of people are in the toyo camp, however just rang camskill up...tues/wednesday for delivery
, ctyres.co.uk have them £108 delivered, or £133 fitted locally, wud prob be monday, or the falkens i can get this arv , ah f**kers local places shud have all tyres in stock
after a chat with dan, ive gone with the falkens, just had them fitted
they wanted a tenner to swap the wheels round, so now got the falkens on the front, need to go and awap them over now, but that gives me a good chance to clean all the inside arches properly and take the mud flaps off and clean under !

So you've got the Falkens on the front with your older tyres on the back?
Unless the old tyres are track-day tyres or have far better wet grip, leave them the way they are as its much better to have the good tyres on the front of an E30 so you won't have any nasty understeer wrongness.

the falkens are on the rear now, and bf goodrich are on the front, which are good for a few thousand miles yet, but il just get another 2 falkens on it somewhen soon
i had a drive with it with the falkens on the front/goodrich on the rear, and it drove nice and felt smooth, but not yet driven it with how they are now the other way round, so il see what i think , if it felt better the other way round i might awap em back then ?

if you intend to put your foot down with falkens on make sure you dont have a gear engaged. I tried some falkens on my golf and they are shite. and they have just worn out after 5k miles. As for toyo's you wont get better for the money.. however spend some money and buy some bridgestone re040's or re050's and you wont have an issue with grip wet or dry they stick like shit to a blanket and are better than toyo's T1-r on track also wet or dry

Bollocks to this 24v scrap!
I'e found my Falkens 912's to be an awsome tyre and have really made a great improvement of the car. Got Yokohama C Drives on the front which have the very same trad pattern.
I've had Bridgestone before on my MX-5 and utterly hated them.
With tyres you will always get people going on about which is better just like the IS v 325i threads.
I think the only thing most people will agree on is the P6000 is a leathal tyre for an e30.

if the falkens are recomended by yourself, with them on your aplina...they are good enough for me thats for sure, wasnt big bucks so il see how they go
dan... do you thin k i shud keep the falkens on the back, or wack em back on the front ? and keep the bf goodrich on the back ? , im gonna get 2 more falkens in a few weeks
edit...mind being rwd, the fella who fitted them said the goodrich on the front, will have a few k left in them, so i might just leave them on the front and see what i get out of them and how it feels

I always thought you put the best rubber on the wheels that drive the car. I'm no mechanic so it's always best to ask someone in the trade you trust. I know Kos rates the Falken 912's ( which is earlier in this thread ). You got good rubber on the car now , it's in good working order and as long as you take it easy on roundabouts and in the wet accelerating you'll be fine.

Yes, for people that are afriad of oversteer...
I prefer less grip on the rear more enjoyable and probably easier to control rather than going into a corner to find the front end deciding to fook off to the other side of the road and into a passing car or ditch.
The usual way people in the trade fit two tyres is to put them on the axle which had more grip to start with and then put those tyres on the axle which had the worn tyres.
This prevents the driver from having getting a shock from the opposite end of the car having more grip than they had before getting new tyres

Ideally you put the same brand all round...
Toyos are a good budget choice. Good marketing over the past 5 years has helped sell them for sure. I have some on the front of the 205, tbh they like a good wheel spin in the wet. In the dry they are OK, in fact, i'll give it to them, they are good. But r888s when warmed up are a massive step up(even in the wet), but you can't have these on a road car really.
If money is no object on a road car you are looking for the premium brands, not a well marketed product. I would be looking at Continental sport contacts or Michelin pilot sport premacy.
P6000s are hard as nails, hence they last a long time, but this is the very thing that makes them god awful. Good marketing sold these tyres.
I am currently enjoying Dunlop SP maxx's on the 540i and they seem a good choice. Ok, on the rear they will last about a year(going on reciepts of Maxx tyres) but you get a good level of grip. What is more important, paying out £100-150 a year or paying out 70-100 quid a year for some shite that you may end up backwards in a ditch?
