What does everyone think of RHD M3's? Are they any good? any problems associated with them?

They arent worth it IMO. LHD is part of the character of the car. Why pay a premium for a car then do a thousands of pounds of work which kills the value of it?

If you genuinely think you will have problems with LHD and a dog leg box. Don't buy one

if its been fully converted, and i mean mirrors/wipers/loom etc and you pop on an e36 rack i dont see the harm

there will always be a market for them. just dont buy one to convert

I just been offered one off ebay today but it doesn't appear to be an official Birds UK conversion. The guy said he would come back to me after the MOT but he hasn't.

I wouldnt want one in any case, as the other guy said, LHD is part of the character of the car and far easier to drive than you think! I've been doing it for seven years and never had a problem.

Just remember a substandard conversion will do more harm than good and the car will be harder to sell!!

How many actually get PROPERLY converted though...

It's like going and buying a box of Jam doughnuts. Then taking them apart and putting Custard in because you don't like Jam!!!

i've seen a couple of well sorted ones

very well sorted ones, one had an s50 in it as well

the rack really used to spoil them but with an e36 or even z3 rack they are just a good. they way the drive is not affected, its the silly things that affects them like having all the switches working, wippers and mirrors converted at the smae time etc

personaly, i'l prefer LHD but if a well sorted rhd drive one came along i'd consider it. this is on the basis its would be a toy and see track action

Even the birds ones have a slower rack so lose a lot of the characteristics driving. I suppose you could e36/z3 rack one.

Is there any updated part that can get away from the potential loss from the manifold change?

I still wouldnt have a RHD one, it doesnt take long to get used to lhd and as Rich says if you think you'd have problems with the cock eyed gearbox and lhd dont get one.

the LHD thing is that it adds to the Kudos of the car.

in regards to the manifold and power loss , its nothing worth worrying about............... Demlots car is rhd with an s14, and made factory power before he fitted cams and airbox.

Yep and it now has 237 bhp. The power loss thing from a modded ex manifold is bullshit.

His uses a Birds/hartge one but someone like BTB could convert one.

So why wouldnt you want a LHD? Its only like wan*ing with your left hand.....you get used to it and its actually better after a while.

If I go to Mac Ds I take my wife or go in, if we park in a car park Sarah comes with me but its rare we do that cos they're not the sort of cars you want to leave in a car park.

How the hell would going to Mac Donalds be a consideration when buying a M3, right or left hand drive?

nothing to do with fast food outlets :)

i find driving an LHD car in a RHD country tedious.

like i said i have no issues with the actual control of the car, done it many times abroad and can also use my left wanking spanner for an audition of the finger puppets.

What was the other thing?

On the plus side if you leave it in a Maccy D car park someone might steal your rear lights and you could come over to the other side.

I've used lhd cars daily for nearly 6 years and never found it annoying tedious, troublesome or anything else negative.

I've also found lhd cars tend to have a better pedal layout with a more natural clutch foot rest position.

Whilst I understand that a rhd conversion could technically be as good if not better than a standard lhd, I have no need or desire to own a rhd version so would never buy or convert one. Being lhd only is one of the things that makes it a bit more unusual and exclusive and is probably one of the reasons why they've never really appealed to meatheaded oiks.

I think the only exception is the chap who was moving to Australia, I'd rather have a rhd one than not have one at all.
cheers,

harry

I had a LHD golf g60 okay around town and on the motorway but when i went for drive across country small twisty roads/lanes 1/2 times a month from Scotland across northumbria or the lakes to see family you need the extra distance to sight for a clean overtake which reduced the options. So i would prefer a RHD m3 due to the context I would drive it most in, and a LHD one for trips to Europe.

I would prefer a RHD one also as a lefty I prefer to do any advanced movements with my left hand not the right :o: Joking aside I would just rather have a RHD car to have and use.
