I personally can't understand why people buy saloons? Why buy a less practical version of the same car? Estates all the way for me, heres my pair:
One Avant and one Touring.
Beemer 325i Track car currently in production.
Audi S4 currently transporting me around.

I've been laughed at or been ask "why" a couple of time re the touring.
The first was my brother in law .
He said-What did you get that for it's an estate he also said it looked sh*t with the borbet a's.
The other was a guy who was passing the garage and stop to admire the 4 door then saw the touring and asked if that one was my dads lol.
Some people just dont see what i see and are intitled to there opinion ,but they dont know what their missing

I often get the same old crack up here too.
"It's not a touring, it's an estate" is an old favourite.
"That Saab's an old mans car" is another.
These comments are mainly from my workmates, who have run of the mill boring shiteboxes. Nuff said.

Don't let that wind you up, obviously they haven't got a clue about cars especially ones that are older than they are.
Whenever driving the 'estate' I've had many a positive comment & thumbs up.

[quote="SUMPCRACKER"]Dan,
Just went through your recent threads (stalker?) and ive seen you have had some probs with my old tourer..
You should have PMd me, i can sort it all easily.
The only reason i didnt sort it was i needed it gone in a hurry.
Let me know if you need help with lumpy running, poor starting ect..
And its a low comp engine btw from a 1990 car.[/quo
Hello how you doing? The only problem i seem to have is the lumpy starting and the fuel gauge but not worried about the gauge just yet . A few people said its possibly the the brass nut on the back of the cluster? Also the lumpy starting could be the blue temp sender apparently which seems like an easy job. Thanks for the help, i love the car by the way

I hate when you tell people find out you cars is 20 years old, and start saying "Wow your car is so old, it probably breaks down a lot. Why dont you get a new car as its more reliable and its cheaper to fix."

Estates in general are just better, because they're not trying to be something they're not, they're unashamedly practical, they don't need to make people look at them, they're just cars that are going about their daily business, whilst sniggering at the bodykitted masses. When you couple this practical look with serious power, you've got the best of it all. High powered estate = all trousers and no mouth.
I'd have any Avant/Touring/Volvo estate anytime. If it weren't for the fact the V70R just doesn't fit on my drive, I'd have had one a long time ago.

With a touring is least likely to be rusty, and is much cheaper then a 2 door and disk brakes all round. You can also get a very nice 325i for a fraction of a 2 door.

The touring is one of the few "estates" i like but you have to admit you can't call any estate good looking really not compared to its 2/4 dor rival.
Unfortuantly driving an old (classic) estate either makes you look like a scrap collecter, fisherman or a pedo but who cares what other people think i'd have a 325 Touring anyday

Could be worse when i was 18 i had a group of saxo youths laughing at my punto as it was badges as a 1.2 and they tried to race me off the traffic lights as this is what saxo boys do.Sadly they found out mine was the old Fiat punto GT1 which had 140bhp and i left them for dirt.Next time i saw them I said where did you disappear last time I raced you he was like you might of beat me but your car is old I walked away laughing

I've had a few ask me "whats next... kids" when I got my touring. That has kind died down.
The boots great for lobbing stuff into

I'll second this, as much as I really want a sixpot (the penny pot is getting a little fuller every month

)
I'm always getting negative comments about my car. It's a ropey looking thing too. But fuck 'em, I still enjoy it

Not in E30s any more

Im quite happy with my "grandad mobile". how many 20yr old cars can you buy that you can drive every day to and from work, that has enough space in the back you would ever need, can go out and smoke all the boy racers in their "well fast" hatchbacks, have sideways lunacy to the sound of a roaring six pot and drive quietly back home in a civilised manor.

The touring thing's been growing on me lately. I was eyeing up a black 325 on ebay the other day. Something about the way they look, and the fact they'll blow the unsuspecting idiot at the lights away......

In nearly 7 years I never had one neg comment or snigger (that I know of!) Only last week,a 12 year old and his mates say "nice car mate". Seems some of the youth of today do at least have taste for things other than plastic Saxo's!
X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...

yeah I get that! f**ks me off a treat, cheaper and easier to fix that my mates golf mk4. Crashed my touring on a damp road in the summer - wasnt concentrating.
Next summer when I've finished uni my plan is to create the 2 door touring in my sig below, I think it looks the business. Touring roof on a 2 door. Can't be too hard!!

I know what you mean, I was in a Pistonheads convoy at the wekend and and was following a Lamborghini Diablo. Obviosly traffic on the M1 restricted the convoy to short bursts of speed rather than attempting land speed record attempts but the E30 kept up.
To be honest once the traffic started clearing and triple figures were showing I backed off for fear of my licence.
I am in no way saying my car can keep up with a Lamborghini, clear road and I wouldn't have seen which way he went

Exactly the opposite for me, I prefer the touring shape to the saloon which is why I bought one. I had a saloon for 8 years and after owning the touring for 8 years, I prefer the looks of the touring.
Never had negative comments.
