RR Today at 15:30.... The results are in....

Well, it's finally all sorted and booked in to see if all the hard work and "testicular discomfort" has been worth it. The last time the car went on the rollers it won a prize, the "Wooden Spoon Award" for lowest reading of the day, it's even in last months Total BMW


I've been doing last minuite checks today...
Gear box oil looks new and is upto level
Diff oil and bush changed, leaky output seal on the to-do list
Engine oil topped up
Tappets checked and adjusted as required (only 2 needed adjustment)
Coolant topped up (sensor keeps working loose, also on the to-do list)
Plugs checked for correct gap and general condition, all ok.

Have I missed anything?

I'm actually a bit nervous, I have a figure in mind that I want it to better (190 bhp/tq) but we will see.

B25 low comp pistons, block and head both skimmed (minimal on the head, 0.5mm on the block to retain standard squish) approx 9.7:1 CR
M52B28 crank
M20B20 rods
CatCams 273/273 with vernier
Lightweight flywheel
A Tec 2.8 chip tweaked for LPG
BBTB
Ultrasonicly cleaned B25 injectors
Standard exhaust manifold/down pipes, new genuine middle box and a magnex back box

The cam came to about £300 iirc from A-tech and i dare not tot it all up, it must be nearly 2K and then theres all the "while i'm at it" stuff.

It took 2 B25 engines to get a decent set of parts but at least that means i've got a spare head.... the next thing im buying for it is a BTB 3 manifold, but only after the bank account has recovered

Well i hoped for 120 last time and got 96, that inspired me to get a bigger engine built, im being realistic because shes on a tame-ish cam and will still be pretty tight. I'm also not sure that the cam timing is optimal, the vernier has no graduations at all and was a C**t to get to a standard position.


The RR have a good reputation and specialise in TVR/Lotus so im hopeing the results will be accurate.


Also i think it could have either been done cheaper or better by a different machine shop, they really took the piss then im convinced they over charged me... the job could have been thrown together much cheaper but i got carried away replaceing things and bought good brand name gaskets (Payen) rather than cheapo's.

Can't see the logic here, if you wanted to retain the same squish, then removing metal from the two faces ain't the way to do it. Unless your using a thicker head gasket?

The reason is that the 320 rods are 5mm shorter than the 325 ones but the crank gives 9mm longer stroke, (4.5mm each way) meaning that the pistons are 0.5mm lower in the block at TDC, so to retain the squish 0.5mm was removed from the block top and a minimal skim on the head to get it flat as can be.... Simples.

2 grand would have got you a std a cossie lump in there with a couple of small tweaks you would have 300bhp easily.
