Dont know why he is backing down, everyone is entitled to their opinion, its a forum.
He just misjudged the forum a bit and expected more realism which he wont get from die hard E30 fans.
Some just love their car and it wouldn't matter how sh1t it, was they would still promote it.
Some haven't driven enough nice cars to compare.
Some are stuck in the 80s and think everything after that is bad news.
I personaly couldn't give a sh1t if my E30 was gone tomorow, E30s are a good involved drive, but they do drink fuel, aren't that fast ,and rust like fook, there are many modern cars i would rather drive daily.
Before you accuse me of owning a bad model its a 2.5 manual with LSD ect eibach suspension, sports seats blah blah and i do over 200 miles a week in it.

I'm not backing down but I am able to take a step back now and then and reflect on things.
Beemerbird: you're very perceptive if you don't mind me saying. That's just the way I am.

I have a 318is and do a 75 mile round trip commute daily and find it a joy to go to work and get in it at the end of the day. Would I get the same feeling from a mondeo?

My 325 is my daily workhorse, does approximatly 50 miles per day (runs on lpg) - stills pulls away from some of modern cr*p! Turns heads with those who appreciate the workmanship, style and build quality.
Steering makes you feel as though you are connected to the road, although the rack can get a bit tiresome, especially when parking. For a 20 year old motor it doesn't sweak and rattle like some cars that are only 2 - 3 years old!!
And when you have that straight 6 at full song - man does that bring a smile to my face
(oh going round corners in the wet makes me laugh like a maniac

CR24v??? Where's it all gone?? LOL
Ive been driving E30's for the last 18yrs and Ive always done my best to get into another car, I get fed up too quick with cars and I need to alternate between them to keep that sparkle alive.
I use my E30's purely as toys and I use the touring when I want to be pratical ie leaving it at the pub cos it was raining on the way round
I use the E46 for more refined driving and long journey's and I can see BEERBOY's view

2nd that - don't feel so guilty when I'm razzing at it at literally every set of traffic lights, junction and straight bitsImysE30 wrote:LPG?Rav335uk wrote:I wish she would do more miles to the gallon

My 318is is now on 183,000 miles and I have no problem with it what so ever. Slightly rattly around 3000 rpm but nothing apocalyptic. Certainly the most reliable car I've had so far... Not to mention that an entire new engine with half the miles can be picked up for £250 should the worst happen.Sawyer_E30 wrote:The E30 is now a 20+ year old car. I actually bought my e30 from an MX5 dealership. Someone must have traded it in for one. Have to say, being surrounded by mx5's just made me want to buy the e30 even more.rossmc88 wrote:I bought an MX5 to cruise around on sunny days and I was astounded by the way it drove, it honestly needs to be driven to be believed. I've never driven my Puma any great distance since it was fixed but short trips I use it over the Alpina as it's a nibel thing. Long distance my Alpina wins hands down.
I've never driven a m42 so know idea how well it cruises but in mine it's sweet and smooth at motorway speeds. Also for me the seats and layout of the inside make it comfortable for my back, I can see the dials and it makes me happy. Other cars I owned never did this for me.

I'd rather drive my wife's Polo diesel any real distance.
E30s look good yes, but that's really about it in my book.
Also, here's a tip: Spend some money on the e30. Afterwards if you still prefer driving your wife's polo then you're just an idiot.
Anyone who knows of an S50 B32/B30 E30 for sale, please let me know.

my E30 sport is my company car and used daily, apart from being annoying when stuck in traffic (as i wish it was an auto in those conditions) i drive it regularly to Jubail in Saudi Arabia which is a 250km round trip in 50+C weather on farly rough surfaced roads... it is comfortable, good seats, very good A/C and enough boot to keep up with most cars.... i cannot see why anyone would think them to be rubbish.

There is nothing wrong with an E30 really, they are just all 20 years old now and very ,much oldskool tech in everyway. The march of technology means new cars are massively different and much more improved in all areas!
I drive mine because i like them, if you and anyone doesn't thats fine

Nice, thats 6k already then, 'twas a good one. I wish I could afford to do 6k miles in that time in my stead.johnl320 wrote:I have a 318is and do a 75 mile round trip commute daily and find it a joy to go to work and get in it at the end of the day. Would I get the same feeling from a mondeo?

I still miss it, it was a joy to drive down B roads, the 540i is too lardy and the 205 picks up on every bump and is stupidly loud.
As a recent newbie to the E30, I have to agree in some ways, but I am pleasantly surprised in others.
I recently had to part ways with my much loved Boxster S, which was a fantastic car (ignore the hairdresser and poor mans Porker etc) and decided to buy myself the E30 to run about in.
My thoughts so far are, it drives very well for a car of the age it is, much better than a ford/vauxhall/french car of a similar age, i love the retro styling being an 80's kid and it's surprisingly quiet on the motorway, performance is above average.
What I don't like is the fact it does guzzle the juice as much as the previous car which I was surprised about and it's not as relaxing to drive as I thought it would be.
For the money, I dont think I could have found (in my opinion) a better looking, good all-rounder. I'm now finding myself aching to do some mods, something I haven't done since I was quite a bit younger (31 years young now).
So my thoughts in conclusion....buy an E30, they make you feel young again!

the e30 was never anything groundbreaking or special. it was a pleasantly styled and more solidly put together than other cars of its age and could be made to look nice and handle well with a few choice add ons but so could many cars.
mine was really clean and a solid tight drive with my only real complaint being its inadequate power.i wouldnt say it was hugely uncomfortable either just average .thats why god gave us the ability to transplant engines.problem solved. i turned mine in to the complete all rounder i wanted for not that much cash, an every day tool lugger that could embarass executive and high performance sports cars.
it was made to do all i required it to do and it handled double its intended power well considering i ripped the 4rse out of it daily.
in summary...a decent everyday car that had room for improvement but not really a crappy shed.

I can't think of any other car that I could drive and feel the rain dripping onto my flip - flops
At one with nature and six throaty thirsty pots of misbehaving fun?
That's my car, Mister

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is
My car is far from perfect, but I had a drive tonight that was one of those 'I love my car moments'.
Coming back from the Ashford Kent Diner meet on the A20, clear dry roads, and coming off a roundabout kept right with a non-standard looking R33 Skyline until he turned off, had a blast most of the rest of the way and the car was going very well indeed!
That's what it's all about to me, those slightly naughty, adrenalin filled little drives!
I'm still buzzing and grinning!

absolutely , I have a choice of almost any car you see on todays roads, but i stick with what i like (I have tried lots of newer cars but always gone back to an e30 )Simon13 wrote:There is nothing wrong with an E30 really, they are just all 20 years old now and very ,much oldskool tech in everyway. don't like them ? then jog on fella, poor MPG ? then get a ford ka or a polo oil burner
they rust, love to drink petrol and your spare cash, but for me ..it's the only way to travel.
quirky, distinctive, reliable and you will never lose one in a carpark with the rest of todays shite
