Tell me about it - 90% of the time I'm leaving a particular roundabout in Luton this happens, like a giant fricking Bermuda triangle where everyone suddenly forgets how to drive. I've come to anticipate it and I drop back as the cars on the right cut me off, or just floor out of it if I'm ahead. Short of deliberately shunting them there's nothing that can be done about it, I'm learning to accept the idiots and drive around them.

I have found though that in Spain people use the outside lane on roundabouts regardless of where they exit
I do the same when I'm out there now

I will undertake people. If somone is in the outside lane on an empty motorway, why should I move across two lanes and try to make them move over either by flashing or other means.

I just maintain my speed and undertake as its safer.

That sounds like a new sport to me, start a new thread to keep score.

The best way round a roundabout is to go faster than everyone else and apex every curve, fuq em all. The same applies to all London traffic.

I am sure there was a guy on Pistonheads bragging that he had managed 17!

I agree, it would be a funny ol thing to start doing, even better if you had a little sign in your side windows that said something along the lines of "MLM, you are doing it all wrong."

I do this every day, its saves the brakes and tyres winkeye why go round a corner when you can drive in a straight line?
Obviously, I dont do it on busy roundabouts or if im close to other cars as thats just asking for side swipes :)

Another good one to get the middle lane hog to move over at night is to overtake in the prescribed fashion in the outside lane, but flick your left winker on a little early, ie as your side repeater is just getting along side the drivers window. Often the shock of seeing a light flash close to them in their peripheral vision sends them scuttling to the correct position on the road. Or just squeeze closer and closer until they're running out of tarmac on the hard shoulder.........

Yep It Does.......I've only had mine 2 days so give me time!!!

The VW way to do it is to sit behind them with your horn blaring until they move over! Most I've managed is 5min of horn abuse before the dithery old tw@t realised and pulled over :drive:

Frankly I believe the highway code states you may undertake if in traffic your lane is travelling faster (but not exceeding the speed limit of the road) than the lane to your right.

Now provided you are not travelling over the speed limit and yet undertake a slower moving vehicle how can it be illegal to undertake a slower moving car in an outside lane? Who would argue 2 vehicles do not constitute traffic? and who would argue that the other driver was actually excersising correct lane discipline if in the outside lane and not passing a slower moving vehicle or approaching a right turn (or appropriatly signed direction for that lane).

Consider two lanes, the outside lane is has a right turn and traffic (or a single vehicle) is slowing to turn right, do you continue at your current legal speed, or slow down to the speed of the turning cars so as not to undertake?

I was always taught that there is no overtaking lane and there is no fast lane (in fact I believe this is also stated in the highway code!) instead there is only inside/middle/outside lanes and you should use them all as appropriate to make efficient progress.

You may also now fail, or collect minors in your driving test for 'not making progress'.

You should not overtake on the inside. The Highway Code specifically addresses this:
Section 268
Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake.

Whilst there is no specific law broken if you do overtake on the left, should an accident occur or your manoeuvre be considered unsafe, you could be prosecuted for careless driving.

Seriously though, if they are traveling at 'taking the piss' speeds, no harm in flashing the high beams and the odd honk. Only in extreme cases though.

you say that, but then we wouldn't get our parts deliveries as quickly.

My method for dealing with asleep drivers at night in the middle lanes is to cross 3 lanes then cross back. I'm usually going a fair old speed so they get quite a shock and usually decide to move over.

I once came across someone who was doing 45mph in lane 3... and refused to budge from their current lane. In the end I got bored of flashing and proceeded to undertake, looked in my mirror and they still didn't do anything.

I used to get highly irritated driving. Now I couldn't care less, I will make progress at my speed and will drive around any objects in my way. I pay my roadtax and will use every inch of the shitly paved roads that we are given to drive on.
Undertaking? 1 long flash and if your no out the way I'll be undertaking. I am sick to the back teeth with useless drivers.

For instance. I was driving at 70mph on the m20 on tuesday, I came across a car sat in the middle lane doing what, 60, 65? mph slower than I. I moved out behind and flashed my lights, he courteously moved over and let me past as I returned to the 1st lane, the fucking numskull piloting the shitheap thought he had some god given right to drive in the fucking middle lane and moved back out. That was it, I was fuming!

I think I was irate within about 5 minutes of being back in this shithole. Some cock in his vectra was beeping at me while I crawled off the ferry and navigating around the terminal, I let him in front and was being a proper bellend to him, beeping swearing, climbing out the window, driving like a cock fucking vauxhall drivers mrs was munter too, maybe he had some severe issues and had to make up for small man syndrome by beeping his horn at my exec chariot destroying the o zone layer

i must admit, i rarely go in the slow lane and if i do, the tramlines left by the trucks do pull the car about a lot so i prefer to sit further out. i will however move over when someone approaches who is going faster than me, though this is rare :)

Barbara Castle was the labour Minister of Transport when motorways were new and it was her who started the 'fast lane' 'slow lane' thing.
This is why folk who are traveling faster than a truck will sit in the middle lane, they are 'faster' than the traffic in the left lane......
As an HGV driver myself,my employers(bless  )have limited most of our fleet to 52mph as 'fuel saving measure',trips now take five minutes per hour length longer as a result,so as I am paid a monthly salary rather than by the hour my truck sits at 52mph for as much of the time as is possible, the less time I spend at work, the more time I can spend playing with my E30's!I usualy find that I am sitting in the inside lane on the M25 passing all the cars in the other two or three lanes , very strange...as for trucks passing each other, very slowly,if we are both going to the same place, the first one there gets the loading bay winkeye

I do occasionally "undertake" but more often than not I sit a sensible distance behind flashing my main beams. You wouldn't believe the number of p***ks - particularly on the A1 - who pull over and then pull back out when you've passed! The empty lane 1 but queuing lane 2 problem seems to usually be caused by bloody lorries overtaking.
With centre-lane jockeys, I go round them and back into lane 1 if it's free. That usually gets the message across.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......
