The usual reason is that it is cheaper, but there are restrictions. It has to be over a certain age, it sometimes (always?) has to be a second car, and there are usually mileage restrictions per year.

Oh stop being so over-dramatic shakey! :P
You clearly just aren't manly enough to have an e30 as a daily driver :gay:
I just got the insurance renewal through and on my 540i with NO NCB and I'm 25 for £500. Something wrong with the quotes you've been getting dude!

With all the trouble people have getting agreed value on their cars, even with £2000 of fraggable extras, I sometimes wonder why people bother with fully comp. As soon as the insurance guys get their hands on your car you're unlikely to see return on that £650 six branch.

If I had valuable extras on mine, which I don't, I would either go to lengths to get worthwhile agreed value or just do 3PFT and make sure it stayed in my hands in the event of a collision.

I'm sure someone will explain another point of view to me though.

I'm insured with Liverpool Victoria. I can't get classic insurance because the car is a daily. All mods declared - £179 a year.

But I'm 50y-o, full NCD and no convictions in the last 5 years. :woohoo:

OP, I think you're doing something wrong. 316i touring with 10 years NCD can't be right.
gudgeon wrote:If I had valuable extras on mine I would just do 3PFT and make sure it stayed in my hands in the event of a collision.
That's precisely what I did. :D If I'm unlucky enough to damage someone else's car or property they can claim off my insurance. I'll get my car repaired or if it's too bad I'll frag it. Anyone damages my car, I'll go to a NWNF claims handler.
It's a no-brainer for me. :)
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

I've just renewed (5 days ago) on a 325i tech 1 sport. I'm 22 with 3 years no claims, insured in a rural postcode and garaged overnight. £600. If I bought a 316i, I could probably get it for £200 - something is very wrong here.

He must have a DD conviction or something to amass quotes that high surely!

Spending a bag insuring a 316i would be totally nuts, imagine how disapointed you'd be ever day, knowing that it was costing £3 a day to keep a piece of shit, tapping m40 on the road. 8O

what age is that though? its looking like it may be easier for me to get trade insurance that separate on two cars soon.

I only pay £139 for the Alpina , agreed Value , full comp , £50 Excess with 7000 miles SDP only

Seriously you must have choosen the 30 worst insurance companies.

Both Lancaster Insurance and Adrian Flux do discount for the BMWCC so I would lie about being a member and see what rate they give you ( if you need a membership No just PM me I'll give you my one )

Because its a second car - limited to 3k per year which as I only really use it between March and September is fine - and I have an E36 323i Touring as a daily driver.

The £178 is made up of : £102 for the insurance :D , £29 for breakdown/recovery, £17 Legal Expenses cover, £15 for Agreed valuation and £15 Policy fee ( whatever that is ! ).

policy fee will be a shrewd way of saying policy tax.

But, I'm currently paying £1200 because I can't afford the deposit to change my insurer.

My insurance, through my local broker (better than all the intynet companies) has risen this year by about 3 quid a month.
Currently, with 10 years ncb, insured under the missus with me as name we're paying a fiver under 400. Not bad,as I've got misdemeanors on my license for speeding as well. Also a very small excess.

Be aware if your insurance is very cheap, check to see the size of your excess, can you afford it in the event of a claim?

Oh,and it's still the 325 Touring i'm insuring.

Also,i've just swapped my R5 1.1 insurance to the Corsa 1.7d for no charge or increase in premium.

Shakey, your quotes just don't make any sense to me.

As of this morning found insurance through a small local broker

-unlimited milage sdp only
-agreed value
-protected ncd
-fully comp
-120 days green card
-legal and medical aid in EU
-full cover for track days anywhere in EU
-full EU breakdown recovery and home start package
-allowed to modify/uprate performance
-everything's declared

for grand old some of £279 with excess of £200

Reason for previous high qoutes was basically down to reclassification of insurance groups which E30 has poppd up 14 groups higher you god damn pole finding differs  and industry wide discrimination for being disabled but without any restrictions imposed which was verfied by extended driving test last year, dvla officer and medical evidence.

Anyway still hate the turd

Made up for you mate. :D It,s always worth checking small local Brokers, easy access online,
but not always cheaper. Plus you can,t beat the personal touch.

Gotta love the local broker,no waiting for certificates, always get to talk to the same person without waiting and more or less get the same deal as online, but human.
I've been with mine for years, although I do shop around every year to make sure it's competetive, which it usually is.
