I seem to remember previous discussions about a 'wonderfull' polish you can get called zemol or something like that. Does anyone know where I can get this stuff from and wether it would help with the (not too badly) faded read paint on my 318is.

It's an E30 Jim but not as we know it...
ive used Mer int he past and had good results.
However i tool my car for a professional polish a few weeks ago and the results r stunning - cost me Ԛ£70

I think you mean Zymol.
Never used it so can't make any comments on it really.
Once the paint has started to fade it's a never ending battle to keep it looking good. Keep up the waxing and cleaning, and don't park it in the sun...
Tcut and polish, or get it mopped

Theres some stuff called Farecla thats meant to be good for bringing a faded red car back to how it should look.
Not used it on mine yet, but will do in the next month or 2 as mine has turned proper pink in places.
Total BMW used it on a pink 5 series a couple years back and got it looking really red again.
http://www.farecla.com/ The site lists the stores who stock it.

I've got a red car that's half pink, obviously badly faded by sun in the expected places.
The bodyshop told me that it's the base coat that's faded, and no amount of polishing would work, as the lacquer prevents the base coat getting any benefit.
I'm planning on having the whole car painted, but if a buff will work.
Anyone used any of these polishes successfully themselves?

don't think so, but i know that spolndike (mark) started using it on his before he sold it and was well impressed. and c76jon uses it on his m3 evo2 and that thing is just simply awesome.......makes mine look like a complete turd in comparison.jmc330i wrote:If thats the same stuff Simon used to use on it, it must be good cause that is one seriously Red E30.billgatese30 wrote:i use something called Zaino.

a flat red will cut back to original colour
most reds and def on the e30 unless metailick or black wont havea laquer
soundslike they just trying to get you to pay for a spry you dont need simon.
G3 a mop and it wil bring it back be careful with the mop though cos you can cut tomuch and it will get thin down to primer.
thn keep up the polishing with a good polish every week and she always be mint

Thanks Richy. It's actually a solid red on an E36 Compact, it looks awful but I'm not keen to pay for a full respray because it's in good shape apart from the fading, and it'll get knocked about in use needing paint inevitably.Richy325iTouring wrote:a flat red will cut back to original colour

I'd even considered a really fine wet and dry.
What's G3/mop? I'll give it a go.
His M3 must be good. When mine was parked next to yours (when Simon owned it) I couldnt believe how much deeper and crisper the red was compared to mine. And mine was garaged and polished monthly by the previous owner.billgatese30 wrote:c76jon uses it on his m3 evo2 and that thing is just simply awesome.......makes mine look like a complete turd in comparison.
The pic doesnt really show it and they were both pretty dirty after a couple hours on the motorway. Mine is the one on the left...

What's G3/mop? I'll give it a go.
wouldnt bother trying halfords tey wont stock it
there was a tech artical in total bmwfroma cpl years ago about doing this
prob on the site

I used to be a valeter a couple of years back for a sales company and we had a Escort GTi in red out the back which stood there through sun, wind and rain. It was BAD, sounds like it may be just a little bit worse than yours
, the car started pink at the front and gradually faded to white at the rear
I'm sure i used G4 but G3 will be fine, its the grade of compound to use with a mop. A mop is like a big hand grinder with a sponge on the end of it. If you do it spray the area with water, spray the mop and smoothly wipe your compound across the area you are preparing to do. Keep the mop at arms length and at an angle for best perfection, DON'Tput much wait on the mop cos you will leave a nice divet in your paint which will really piss you off!!
T-Cut the bumpers, not mop as its plastic the mop will take the paint straight off. What ever you do don't wipe the compound or the T-Cut off, just put polish straight on top. Use crap stuff for this bit and go over the hole car. Once finished, go over it with decent polish and walla, as the gti came out like show room condition you should'nt have to much trouble.
Hope this can be of some help as i've just taken up everyones space to right
Cheers,
Jon

Always used zymol myself as a final polish, the stuff you put on by hand, I've always used a mixture of stuff though, don't stick to one particular make. IIRC it was the rear end of your car that was fading? Ron Parish's car was the same up until recently.jmc330i wrote:If thats the same stuff Simon used to use on it, it must be good cause that is one seriously Red E30.billgatese30 wrote:i use something called Zaino.

listen to richy here seems to know his stuff all old reds (as on e30s) are one pack paints (no laquer) g3 and a compound mop are the best things for them but in the wrong hands will show you bare metal on the edges as he says if you know what youre doing you wont get any better results (unless you pay a bodyshop to do it)Richy325iTouring wrote:a flat red will cut back to original colour

Yeah thats right, but its about 10 times worse now. The Mtech spoiler and mirrors are bad (to be expected) and the whole car has now faded. It was going to be resprayed when the conversion is finished, but I may have to move house so the respray is on hold for a while.Simon wrote:IIRC it was the rear end of your car that was fading? I reckon I will give this Farecla stuff a go. I havent seen the finish in person, but the before and after pics I saw in Total BMW were very impressive.

I was recently recommeded Zymol by a friend of mine who has tried every polish under the sun including mer and autogym. Zymol by far is the best stuff ive ever used and it smells nice too! Apparently has coconut and aloe vera in it! Put it on an your motor feels like baby skin! I even bought the Zymol car shampoo which is damn good too!
