How many zoners use their E30 as a daily driver?..
Moderator: martauto
Daily drive for me to as it's my only car, sometimes do 1000 miles a week, sometimes do 20 miles, all without a hitch.
Out of all my BM's the newest ones have been the most unreliable - never had an issue with me E30's (e39's)

Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.
Currently in a diesel Audi - miss me old E30's....

e30 daily driver... why ask?
Get a good one to start with, that is the hardest bit.
regular oil and filter changes when the yellow LED comes on.
replace coolant, brake and clutch fluid every 2 years.
cambelt every 25000 miles on the 6-pot and you will get a reliable daily driver.
Oh, and if you get a 318is, replace the sprockets, tensioner and chain for the valve gear at 150000miles.
The only things that ever stopped my 20 y.o. e30's from starting were small electricals like relays or the alternator brushpack.

Yep, got a 316i touring converted to 318is touring. I probably do at least 500 miles per week in it for work and 50-100 miles at weekends. I love the car, perfomance and economy.
I change the oil and filter according to service lights and it's very reliable.

An E30 touring, two E28 M5's and an E28 528i.

I use my 325 as a daily drive...
100% reliable...well, OK, 99% cos I had an issue with the injector loom, but once in over 4 years ain't bad.
It is unmodified, apart from a Chipped UK chip and a Magnex SS exhaust...
comfortable, easy to drive (fast) and cheap (very) to maintain...and I cover over 14K miles per year in it.
Although tin worm is now getting the better of the lower bodywork, it has cost less than £350 a year in purchase/maintenence (not including tax and insurance).
Only downside really is the 24mpg (average).
My G/f has been driving the 320 touring for a year now...cost me £225 plus another £200 in MoT and bits and that has (flat battery from the alarm aside) also been 100% reliable doing 8500 miles and, again, the only downside is the not very good fuel consumption.
My M3 covers between 4 and 5K miles a year and has also only stopped going once (on the road) with a snapped alternator earth strap leading to a totally flat battery.
In summary, I would trust any of my E30s to go anywhere anytime...
The great thing is they are easy to work on if anything does decide to pack up and parts are cheap and easy to find.
