Fuzzy, go to a drift event you will realise we are all having a laugh most of the time, you just come across as a prick. Maybe it's not your fault and it's just your internet persona (I come across like this sometimes too), but you should be aware that it is not the drift community's fault here.

Thats what I was doing on my 1st drift day - quickly progressed on! (as you said, takes no real talent!)dimebag_from_hell wrote: Treated like this?
You know, I think I'm actually quite liking Fuzzy, now stop being nice you tw@t, I'm not meant to like you ;)
Its just different tastes, I'd far rather race as proper track racing (too expensive atm), drifting is a more fun hobby, and drag racing is something I prefer to watch (live only).
I gotta go make me a sig of me doing a burnout ;)

this fella s a tight "drift king though"
Ye may have seen it before but it's the funniest thing ever. An e30 tries to kill a man for driving the sh!te out of it after giving it a bad dose of modifing too
M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream
He sort of was asking for that really....

To be fair, drifting is gay. But I can't afford to do proper sprints and hillclimbs, so I'll just be gay for a little while.
Oh and the laaaaads in the 325s doing rings are legends haha. LET 'ER OUT JOHNNY. With the badass 90s tunes too.

I find it fun to watch some skilled driving , burning a car up in a car park is not big boy stuff. I rememeber on top gear they had these drifting guys that did some nice sideways action and a few other tricks. For me personally I would rather see a RS200 or any of the other insain group B cars buringign the Ralley tracks up with a point to the drift rather that ego stuff.
No I can't do it ( not really tried tbh ) but then I grew up with Mansell , Senna and Prost and getting the apex bang on and over taking where what amazed me.

I've just been on youtube and watched loads of drifting vids to give it a fair chance. I thought it was shite.
On the other hand, This weekend I am going to spend over 4 hours watching F1 on the telly and race my sailing boat which, if its windy, might touch 15mph. Its horses for courses.
I guess a big factor is understanding. I'm not a big cricket fan but if you watch it with someone who understands all the details and nuences it can be quite interesting. Maybe drifting would be better if someone could explain how having smoke coming off your tires makes your cock bigger.

So, why not have a E30zone drift day? Could be an interesting meet with some action and also a method of weeding out those who say they can but can't.

I could possibily arrange that.
I am planning a BMW only day for the future but have no definate plans for the immediate time.

No you are mistaken and looking at drag racing with a very blinkered perspective.Gibson wrote:Surely Drag Racing is more a technical exercise than a driving one. seeing how much power you can squeeze out of an engine for 10 seconds. Drag Racing is all about the Cars and builders. not the drivers.
You could build the quickest drag racer in the world but if the driver could not react quick eneough and drive it properly you would lose every time to lesser powered cars.

I wouldn't say it's a limited view point or perception. Perhaps a lack of hands on education. I can understand why people enjoy it, it gives the drivers a kick. Perhaps a zone council day is exactly what's needed
I can also understand why people don't like it; it's taken one skill out of rally driving, and made a whole competition out of it. On the short term, enjoyable to watch, but very limited. Where can the sport go from here? What steps can be taken to evolve it and take it to the next level?
For example, boxing has eveolved due to limitations and rules. Pugilists have to think within the confines of the rules to better their opponents. How can limiting rules and regs in drifting improve it? It's surely not the quickest way around the track. Even if it was, the longevity of the cars involved is brought into question on anything over short distance races. Tyre wear must be rediculous.
Supercross has evolved into lunatics doing more mentalist things each year, back flips, fron flips, backflips with cherries on etc...
Personally, I liken it to automotive synchronised swimming. Something you have to practice to get good at, but the judgement of it, is highly subjective. It lacks a definitive objective which is kindred to most motorsport. Get from A to B in the quickest time.
Comparing it to people who get over excited about flat caps, pipe and slippers, OEM and concours is not even a valid arguement. Comparing it to other forms of motorsport is far more valid.

i could turn up and try to talk people out of doing it... fucking up diffs, tyres, drivetrain.... the list goes on. if you need to spin the wheels of you car to make yourself feel like a man there is something seriously wrong in your life. if i ever decided to part with my car and i had the slightest feeling that the person who was trying to buy it was going to drift it or fuck it up, i would tell him to hit the @ucking road.lance1a wrote:So, why not have a E30zone drift day? If it ever happens, although there's meant to be some drifting at the BMW show isn't there?
Very well explained, same problem I have with drifting seems its more based on opinions of judges than hard facts like a stop watch as in all other motorsports.Rosc0PColtrane wrote: Personally, I liken it to automotive synchronised swimming. However many people just do not realise the difference between getting the back end out occasionally to actually hooking up a sequence of corners sideways at 100mph+ constantly sliding inches away from a competitor whos sliding about too, to me thats stuff of heroes even those its pointless
I'll happily watch clips like Marc Fleury, above and things like this one ...click here... as they're are a bit more interesting than just watching someone doing circles around a cone... Either one in my link gets it slightly wrong, they're both go out.
Driving in circles is - to my mind - boring, watching someone drifting round a track or drifting 'rally style' is great to my mind.

I still dont understand how people don't get the idea of doing things for fun? I've got mates that go to skateparks.. on their own... do stupid things on bikes etc because it makes them feel good. People do things like fly RC helicopters... on their own because that is what makes them feel good.
Putting some petrol in my car and trying to keep the back end out is what makes ME feel good. Luckily for us lads, there's proper practice days for this so we can do it in a safe enironment.
Put me on a rally stage and tell me 'go really fast and get a good time', I'll probably just end up trying to link up corners sideways.. because that's what I like doing. Nothing to do with making my cock bigger haha.
Most of you moaners will just brag about how fast or shiney your cars are, but when do you ever get any real enjoyment from them?

What a crap post. On one hand you've identified that people derive fun from different persuits, then decided to mock people who don't drift, saying they don't get any fun from it.
You'd probably wimp out on the rally stage, rather than compete and lose.
It's shit posts like that which makes winding up you Last and The Furious boys so much fun.
Go away and polish your neonz innit bruv.

Its a hobby, I dont understand why people would want to go on long walks or visit churches but I dont find ways of telling them they are stupid for doing so.

Can we agree to differ here guys and girls?
