MAF drives like a total bag of sh!t when the car's cold but good throttle response

MBE if you can get someone who knows how to map it should be better

I was originally having an MBE and it was even on the car and, I'm told, sounding and working great. The problem was that it wouldn't talk to the autobox and wouldn't change gear. So I ended up with a MAF. I don't think anyone has managed to sort out the original problem yet. Given the choice, I'd still go for the MBE, but as has already been mentioned it takes a lot of setting up to get it right. But when it's right, it's really right!!

What about the massive difference in costs though lads?

I spoke to Quarry motors who would supply a MAF for Ԛ£100, and I remember Sal telling me that the MBE was about Ԛ£700 to buy+ fitting and atleast a couple of hours on the rollers at Ԛ£50 an hour.

But they are totally different items, MAF being a replacement for the AFM and the MBE being a fully mappable ECU, seemed strange that they were being compared to each other.

Still I did have a go in Sals and Dales e30's with MBE and it made a HUGE difference is performance and pickup was amazing.

There is also the unichip to consider as a cheaper option to the MBE.

You can pick up a MAF unit fairly cheaply but what most people don't realise is that you need engine management to run it. I'm using the Dastek Unichip. This along with a remap bumps the cost right up.
