Ok sounds dumb but what exactly is the newspaper test on the viscous fan, I,ve managed to stop mine with me fingers on many occasion when fiddling around in the bay with engine running, I,ve got an idea that my fan might be on its way out.
THERE ARE AIMERS, USERS, MOTORISTS AND THEN DRIVERS
If the engine is cold the paper should stop it, if the engine is hot ( traffic jam hot you know your own temp gauge) it should shred it. Don't go shoving a telephone book in there though
Hows your prep for 'enduring help' going?

Are we talking Officer Broadsheet or Trooper Tabloid here John, folded or otherwise, as for enduring help, well The guys from a local unit have been most helpful and agreed to lend us two bikes which I,ll be picking up after easter leave, can see one of them being used as my daily commute im sure I can put a worthwhile task on the VUR and self sign
well I need the training and as I ride a couple of local laneson me way to work on my XR then it would be rude not to, everything else is in place even got meself a quick master class in the mechanics for the bikes jacked up as well so everything is looking good to go, will let you know what team number we are so that I can liase with your oppo who was kind enough to give up his time to sign us off on the FMT600, owe him a beer, even though we didnt need him in the end, and anyway if I can get him wasted then he,ll have the hangover from hell for the race, dirty team tricks

He's from Glasgow, it'll take more than beer, try plying him with some anti-freeze
I'll put up there team number as soon as I know.
Personally, unless the temp gauge is going up to 3/4 in traffic then I wouldn't worry too much. If you do sit still for a long period there should be a definate fan type howl when you pull away. This should disappear quite quickly again once you get moving.
If you have to do the test, then I'd use half a tabloid rolled up.
