Re: Strange Electrical Problem - battery drain

Thanks for the replies guys. I have spent today working on it, and I isolated the fault to the alarm system, which I have now removed. With the alarm removed, the fog light does not light up anymore. However, there was still a 300mA draw somewhere (not enough to light the fog light), and this turns ...

Re: Strange Electrical Problem - battery drain

Yes the cables are the correct way around in each instance! On 10A it fluctuates between showing 100mA and 0mA, but again doesn't explain why it is off the scale on 200mA setting.

Thanks

Strange Electrical Problem - battery drain

Hi guys, Car is my 1989 325i convertible. The only after market item is an alarm, which seems be drawing about 20ma (which is fine). My battery keeps going flat, relatively fast (takes less than a day), and I am having trouble tracing the fault. The battery is almost new, and was fine, however the c...

I'm running 7mm spacers at the front Tony, to clear the anti-rattle springs on the brake calipers. That is with style 5 alloys, ET20.

Re: Diamond Black e30 M3 - 1988

yeah 5mm hubcentric spacer as they do foul every so slightly. pushed the wheels out nicely too to fill the arch. Where did you get them? I'm having trouble trying to find some for exactly these wheels on M3 hubs. I'd be interested to see those as well. Anything less than 11mm means the wheel cannot...

Re: Speedometer parts

As you say, thats for cruise (primarily). Yes I couldn't see any problem with the gears in the clocks (and no I didn't replace anything in there), so assume it is electrical. There is nothing to see wrong which is the problem, no shorted connections or dry joints.

A friend of mine had a new roof fitted to his 4 door. £1,700 with paint, and it is a perfect job. That excludes the cost of the roof. I'd be surprised if anybody will do a proper job for less than £1k sadly - not a cheap area to fix!

Re: rear quarter glass guttering removal

Only other thing is the front long gutters or at least the little trim joining them to the small rear gutters you are trying to pull off. You wont brake the painted part if you are careful to pull it out in a straight line. Just be careful, as it is easy to pull the top out too much, causing you to ...

Re: rear quarter glass guttering removal

theres 2 nuts on the inside mate, hidden on the pillar behind were the seat belt runs. think there 10mm, undo them and it will come off na bother! These (8mm) nuts are for removing the rear quarter glass, not C piller trim. They just pull off, but you will almost certainly break the little clips ho...

Tony,

It is part number 64538391051

Item 8 in below picture:

I am 100% certain, and the R134a one is basically the same as the old R12, however is the one you want.

I remember your motorsport 5 years ago Tom! Did you ever finish the project?

I would steer well clear from this car - it's quite a lot of money considering it has a dodgy history, and £5k will buy you a far nicer car.

I'm 23. I first signed up on here when I bought my first E30 when I was just 16! It was a black 318i LUX.

Had many E30's now, and will keep my long term one for the rest of my life without any doubt.

If it disappears when braking then that is probably your answer! It is probably going to be brake related, just check the calipers over fully and make sure the pads are not shaking etc.

Sounds like you have covered most parts. Knock is definately front end? Subframe bolted up tightly (long shot)? Steerig coupling UJ still tight? (shouldn't cause a knock though). I assume your wheel arch liners are not lose and catching the tread on a tyre, that can make quite a loud knock as they b...

Re: Knocking still

Wheel bearing? Do you get a grinding noise when turning hard? If the wheel is hitting the strut (very unlikely) it will be leaving a mark, so just whip the wheel off and take a look at the strut surface. Whilst the wheel is off check the caliper is on tight, and the disc has no issues. Check over th...

Your wheel will not be catching on your strut, something would have to be very wrong for that to happen and the car would not drive correctly.

What sort of knock is it, and when does it occur?

Re: M3 Compressor bracket mystery

That bracket was fitted to lots of M3s by BMW in the early 1990's. It was part of a upgrade kit used, in which R134a compatable compressors were fitted, with built in pressure switches. The cost for this upgrade was about £1700, and all the old compressor mountings (as shown on etk) were binned. The...

Hi and welcome, Yes the wires sit in the petrol, this is usual. Make sure the solders are good so they will not spark.

A 10/40 weight oil is fine for any E30 under normal use. This is the oil weight nearly everybody will use in them.
