Re: wiring for Air con unit

I'm not certain what wiring you think the M3 is missing. ALL E30's have the wiring needed to plug the air-con heater box into, because it is identical to the standard heater box plug (only difference is between pre and post facelift). So your air-box from the 316i will plug into your M3 loom with no...

Re: OEM uprated sound system - loom help needed

Thanks Barry, much appreciated. I doubt this loom diagram is very accurately drawn, but on my car the offside speaker is simply linked to the nearside, and they both join the loom which was cut, rather than being linked by the loom. Any idea how I would wire the speakers in, because the 4 pairs of w...

Any clues?! Anybody with the uprated sound system who could check to see if the loom goes to the accessory socket above the glovebox? Would be much appreciated!

Thanks

OEM uprated sound system - loom help needed

I have done a search, but no luck with this specific problem... The car is a 1988, and has the uprated sound system fitted from new (i.e. uprated parcel shelf speakers, tweaters and amp in the nearside of the boot). The loom is certainly original to the car, but has been cut near the glovebox area, ...

Ahh, that makes sense now, thanks. I haven't seen screws with the ends riveted like that before, makes sense as it could be catastrophic if it flew into the engine. Thanks for the responses. I have no ramp for my current build so will drop it all in as one and try not to scrape the paint. One other question, when you re-build the TB's, did you remove the flaps inside them? If so, how, because the little philips head screws holding them to the shalf seem to be f...

Re:

Fantastic work, good reading.

Out of interest, why didn't you attach the whole box to the engine and drop it in as one lump? Would this not be easier than bolting the box to the bell housing in situ? I only ask because I'm about to do this! Thanks

Car seems excellent, and drives brilliantly.

One small thing, the battery has gone in the remote locking/alarm fob, and BMW say the battery cannot be changed, and a new key costs £130. Is this true? Can the keys be bought for a more reasonable price elsewhere, it seems like a rip-off!

Thanks

Re: E46 320i - good choice?

Thanks for the replies, sounds like BMW sorted out their 320i model eventually then (or perhaps my E30 320i's have simply been knackered!).

He's off to view in the morning, car looks to be immaculate, and only 40k miles with FBMWSH, so hopeful it is a 'proper' E46.

E46 320i - good choice?

Hi all, My brother is going to buy an E46 (facelift model), and has found a low mileage 320Ci sport which seems like a good deal. I know that with E30's and E36's most people strongly avoid the 320i model, but am wondering if this follows onto the E46. Should he avoid it and wait for a 325i? Its jus...

Re: My tech2 sport

That is VERY nice. The engine bay looks fantastic. The wheels really suit the car, and the height is spot on. It takes a lot to beat a 'proper' tech II sport, I would (and do) have one over an M3 anyday, although am in a minority there!

Re: Electrical/alternator problem - car draining power

Thanks for the replies. A mate gave me a different alternator and I swapped them over, and it now runs perfectly again. Strangely the one fitted to my car was not a bosch one (which I thought all 325i's had). I tried spinning the old one fast with a drill, and it struggled to produce 1v, so it was k...

Electrical/alternator problem - car draining power

Hi, Car is a 1990 325i. My car has developed an electrical problem, and it will only run for about 20 seconds after jump starting it, or charging up the battery. It then cuts out, leaving the battery completely flat. I think the battery is good, it is only a few months old. About a month ago the bat...
