Where does the time go! I didn’t get around to selling this after my last post here in 2022… still have it. Still starts first time, gets run up to temp every month or two and up and down the driveway. I bought some panels from Valcas to repair the rusted ‘jacking points’, and probably a few other p...

Re: 1989 BMW E30 325i Sport manual (owned for 15 years)
You might want to do a retake on the price if there's work to be done, including taking care of rust. As a price guide, here's one that sold recently: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265696511921. Good luck! Thanks, I’m open to offers. I was keeping an eye on that silver one on car and classic and then ...

Thanks for the comments, I’ve been hopeless at trying to half heartedly sell this car - I really ought to try harder. I had been meaning to get around to seeing what was needed for an MOT to aid the sale weeks ago but keep getting sidetracked with other non car stuff…. plus I bought another camperva...

Hi All, It's 15 years in July since I bought this car from my mate back in 2007, he'd owned it since 2004. I've finally decided that it's time to let the car go to a new owner now who can take it on, fix anything that needs doing, and hopefully use it a lot more than I have done for various reasons ...

Here's a few pics. New radiator, turned out not to be damaged but had expansion slots cut into the top and bottom of the frame. I queried it with the supplier and it's correct. https://i.imgur.com/i25ouGml.jpg Old timing belt, which by the time you get to it you're bound to just change anyway like I...

Good news: I changed the timing belt this weekend, the old one was as expected in good condition but glad I swapped it for peace of mind. Took a bit of remembering how to do it and referencing the guide on here! Bad news: I unpacked the new radiator to fit that and found it damaged! Contacted suppli...

Hi All, Has anyone got a spare plastic fan shroud for a 325i knocking around following an engine conversion or fitting an electric fan perhaps? It’s part number 17111712846 to fit a standard non AC 440mm width rad. It fits the back of the rad and has a big circular opening to accommodate the standar...

Lovely sport you have there, its impossible to tell regards the cambelt unless you have a visual inspection for cracks. By that time you may aswell just replace it, especially if you have drained the coolant and removed the rad, you are halfway there mate! Yep - good point. I agree so have ordered ...

Hi, Could you check the prices for these parts please and provide itemised costs? The car is a 1989 E30 325i Sport, manual without AC. I will PM the reg and VIN number shortly. 1. Radiator fan shroud (standard 440mm width radiator): 17111712846 2. Radiator top hose: 11531722216 (I think?) 3. Clutch ...

That restoration work looks rather, er... drastic! Interested to see how you get on as if I start poking at mine and find it needs more than expected, I'll be looking for recommendations to sort it out.

Re: 1989 325i Sport - decade owned & MOT after 4 yr slumber.
It would be wise to change the cambelt, that's a long time resting in one position. Thanks - good point, it's probably due a cambelt on time if not mileage. It has been started up at least every 3 months or so during my ownership, so though it's spent so long rarely driving further than in and out ...

Re: 1989 325i Sport - decade owned & MOT after 4 yr slumber.
Yikes - where does the time go?!? It's spring again, and time to start tinkering again and hopefully get the E30 through another MOT (last one, I'm embarrassed to say was spring 2017!). I put the battery on charge, checked the fluids and she fired straight up as usual and ran quite smoothly. I order...

I decided to have a tidy in the garage today, which gave me a good excuse to remove the cover from the E30 and push it out onto the drive. https://i.imgur.com/dB9FfACl.jpg After checking the fluids all looked good, a little assistance from my Volvo via my longest jump leads, and she fired into life ...

Re: 1989 325i Sport - decade owned & MOT after 4 yr slumber.
Well, sad to say that over 3 years since I last posted on here, with a brake overhaul and new MOT (in 2017!) the E30 has pretty much sat in my garage unused. The good news is, I still love it and still intend to get around to improving it further and maybe even actually driving it again so have been...

Have you checked the earth strap between the engine/gearbox and body? I'd start there, personally as it's something often left off or perished meaning the engine electrics are earthing through the engine mounts and giving all manner of trouble. A jump lead from battery negative to a good clean bit o...

Second reply, the car engine doesn't feel cold in certain places, the heating works perfectly in the car cold and hot, also unless I'm dumb, how do you check the thermostat? :? Remove it and heat in a pan on the stove to check it opens around correct temp and closes as it cools. Depending where it'...

I'd second that, did similar on mine years ago and it's been fine since. The motor and mechanism is very robust so cleans up well and bursts back into life in my experience.gromgsxr wrote:motor prob needs a strip down clean and re-grease.

Have you checked the thermostat? May have failed open giving slow warmup and low temp gauge reading. Re: radiator noise, any coolant loss? Is it a hissing air kind of noise? I'd suggest checking all hoses, flushing cooling system and re-filling with new coolant then bleeding. Which engine do you hav...

Brake and MOT update: I had a lovely weekend just gone, in good weather too, tinkering on the driveway doing a pretty thorough brake job on the E30. It was a good job I did as the MOT is booked for today actually... Bits required: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v648/Beesley/BMW/fullsizeoutput_242...
