Lovely sport you have there, its impossible to tell regards the cambelt unless you have a visual inspection for cracks. Have you checked the earth strap between the engine/gearbox and body? I'd second that, did similar on mine years ago and it's been fine since. The motor and mechanism is very robust so cleans up well and bursts back into life in my experience.

Have you checked the thermostat? May have failed open giving slow warmup and low temp gauge reading. Re: radiator noise, any coolant loss? Is it a hissing air kind of noise? I'd suggest checking all hoses, flushing cooling system and re-filling with new coolant then bleeding. Which engine do you hav...
