Re: 318is normal lairyness.

Not too sure whether to post up as its my old car... but... :) I'm not sure if the alignment was done when the springs and top mounts were fitted but I hope it was, but it would explain the tyre wear. As for the back end grip... its 100% the tyres.. they are not the best (read crap) when it comes to...

This happened to my car. They fitted none BMW mounts which caused a vibration all the way though the car.. took it back and then then fitted gen BMW mounts. Fixed the issue.

Re: Slight knocking from front end - 318is

Top mounts all at correct torques and ARB links look ok... If they were worn I would have thought it would be a bit wolloy and I didn't think I would beable to feel the knocking though my feet.

But I'll definitely have another look.. I think they are easy to change anyway :)

Anything else?

Knocking front end - 318is

Can anyone help identify whats causing it. Its a knocking you can only hear at low speeds its coming from the front of the car and you can feel it though your feet on the floor/Pedals. I pretty sure it suspension related at you can hear it when going over ridges in the road and it can be heard when ...

Cheers! :) Yep the ramps came from CJ Auto's. Me an my brother got fed up with the process of getting cars on Axel stands and also removing the front spoilers on the cars to get them on ramps. So we got these. Annoying I do still have to put a block of 2x4 before the ramp to drive up first to clear ...

Yes it was. It does look good but there was quite a bit of work that needed to be done to it to get it drive right. But its is now a real hoot to drive!

Next on the list is a Gearbox and diff oil change and fix the heater as its blowing luke warm. Not great in this weather. :)

Re: complete Bare shell restoration,

I'm currently restoring a mk2 Polo (www.mk2polo.co.uk) and this had crossed my mind. I think it depends on how much rust is on the car to start with. If its not too bad then you might as well just grind/cut it out. And its not just the cost of dipping you have to add to the restoration but the time ...

When you say the wheels are Mint what do you mean? Have you had them balanced recently.. any weights fallen off?

If it is the engine mounts then they are quite easy to change yourself if you have a trolley Jack. :)

I was going to buy a 318ti compact. But coming from a e36 coupe the interior just seemed a bit cheap. Which I think was a comment made by the Auto press when it was new.

Cheers.. Ok.. I'll go on the hunt for those washers then. Is that item 6 on RealOEM? Rear Top Mount \ Shock Dust cover + Tie Rods

I'm currently working on doing bits and bobs to my iS and need a decent wiring diagram. I have the haynes but its a bit generic. Does the Bentley book had wiring diagrams and if so are they better than Haynes? Also are these rear top mounts ok? http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y185/max_crox/318is/10...
