So sorry for the late reply, (youngest`s wedding you know ) . I had a very similar situation many years ago and it turned out to be the outside "caps/connectors" not making a decent circuit with the headlights themselves. I had good voltage to the outside and the bulbs were all new but it kept going...

Yes. it looks as if the old ECU has experiance overheating a section of the top board has changed colour.
I wont worry about the current ECU failing.
I think Brutus is a Zoner. That is how I contacted him (2 or so Years ago)
