2.93 will be perfect. But this would have to be innards from a 6 cylinder E36 diff built into an E30 casing.
6 cylinder Z3s are 3.15 and almost a straight fit. Still a little short for a cruiser on E30 size wheels but indefinitely better than a 3.46.

KW V1/V2/V3 (depending on requirements and budget). V1 - cheapest, ride height adjustable only. V2 - Rebound and ride height adjustable. V3 - Independent rebound and bound adjustable and with ride height adjustment. Not the cheapest but will lower the car, improve the ride and improve the handling. ...

Yeah, if you can see the liners, it's steel liners. Nikasil was just a hard plating - I've got one of those blocks in my garageYasnick wrote:Looks like corrosion or pitting. We can clearly see the liners..

Re: Oil pump etc for a M52TU28.
I'm not sure I can really help with your issue - but the M52B28TU pump arrangement sounds identical to that of an M54. I get the gist that the M52TU does have more in common with the M54 than the M52, it's not simply an upgrade to dual VANOS. On this point though, might be worth seeing what people w...

Re: Car I’m looking at, advice please lads.
M50 non VANOS is arguably the best choice of BMW engine for a turbo conversion - cost, ease, suitability, quality of end result all things considered. Plenty have done it in here, plenty of information about. M5x engines are also pretty easy to rebuild. Only specialist tool required and worth having...

Re: Odd Indicator Issue after Rewire
So, again for closure. Found that the handbrake light was finding ground through the C101 via the unloader circuit. Tested both unloader relays to find one was sticking. Fixed and replaced, problem solved. Faith restored in my loom skills! Put sheer time spent down to lack of experience. Still don't...

Re: Odd Indicator Issue after Rewire
Right, so I spent some time with this again today. After a spare cluster showed up the same behaviour (confirming the cluster was likely not at fault) I set about trying to track down the rogue ground and managed to figure out it was through the C101. Unplugged C101, issue went away. Started testing...

Re: Odd Indicator Issue after Rewire
Circuits don't come much more simple than this one. Just a single wire. Earth the wire and the light is on. Leave it floating, and the light is off. Yeah the problem is it's finding a resistive path to ground (about 30 ohms iirc) somewhere else. Even with the wire to the handbrake switch disconnect...

Just to close the query for anyone elses benefit, the above is correct. Re: Odd Indicator Issue after Rewire
Thanks for the reply Brian. Yeah thinking about it again, the blue/red and blue/black wires from the hazard light switch (on the dash loom) need to be spliced into the same colour wires from the indicator stalk on the body loom. I think I might not have done that... which would make sense as the sid...

Hi Dan. Yeah that was a worry but I spent some time with it and managed to track the noise down to some of the lifters popping against the cam as it passed approx 60 degrees from full lift. Could replicate the noise by hand and filling the lifter wells with oil made it go away. Cam vendor also assur...

Re: Lifter noise? Or something else?
High lift/duration regrinds by Just Deutsch. Absolutely no doubt the noise comes from lifters/valves. Moves with firing order and when turned slowly, there is no noise.

Lifter noise? Or something else?
Looking for a bit of an expert opinion. In short, I've switched the cams for uprated ones on my M52B30 build. After fitting and timing it up (all seems well on that front), there seems to be a knocking noise from the valvetrain when turned over by hand. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQ3179E...

One small inlet (from radiator overflow) and one large outlet (to metal pipe that runs alongside engine block) are all you need. The 325i header tank has those plus a 3rd overflow outlet. Lots of people use these, not sure what you mean by not enough inlets/outlets?

Part 5 on there
Should press by hand into the gearbox end of the crankshaft. Allows the spigot on the gearbox input shaft to mate snugly with the crank and stop it from rattling around.

If engine's from an auto and you're fitting a manual gearbox, a crank spigot bearing will be required too.

Re: E30 m50b25 lsd question
A medium case E30 (type 188) diff is your best bet with regards to ratios for the E30 gearbox. Any E30 LSD is going to have to be rebuilt with new clutch plates at the very least to work as intended though. Budget for that and you're good to go!

Re: E30 m50b25 lsd question
Somebody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - but the 1.9/2.2 Z3s were only fitted with small case (Type 168) differentials. I also wasn't aware they were available with LSDs. Ideally you want a large case (Type 188) differential for an M50 E30 swap. There have been a few cases of spectacular smal...

Re: When is enough enough? Car going downhill
It's an old car and sounds like it has been neglected in the past. £900 is pretty small change to throw at an E30 to restore it to former glory so don't feel too beaten up about it! You are definitely not alone. If you love the car, make a list of jobs, prioritise them then save up and tackle them o...

Re: E30 m50b25 lsd question
Depends in what sense 'better'. A Torsen has no clutch plates to wear out and doesn't need special oil or friction modifiers to work properly. Fit, change oil at the requisite intervals and jobs a good 'un. Arguably a clutch pack diff is better in motorsport applications. Lighter, more predictable, ...

Re: E30 m50b25 lsd question
Gearing might be a bit long in that case, but probably not undriveable. Ideal ratio would be between 3.64 & 3.91. But you won't find a Z3 diff in that ratio. The Z3 will be a Torsen if it's from a 2.8 or 3.0 Z3. Should be able to tell quite easily what kind of diff it is if you take the back plate o...

Re: 5x120 hub sleeve
A google search should turn up disc dimensions for various E36 & E30 discs for comparison. You'll need it to be the same diameter and the same offset. Or use modified E30 discs with enlarged centre bore and redrilled PCD. My opinion is that's a bit dicey but it's probably how many folk would tackle ...
