Re: Period dealer adverts

One of the mechanics at a site I used to work on always left a few vintage 80s mags in the tea room for people to read. Great reading, so much want looking at the classifieds!

Mine came with what BM refer to as the "acoustic-signal thiefproofing system" Activated and de-activated by inserting and removing the magnetic key at the magnetic lock on drivers door. If a door, bonnet or boot are opened when set, alarm goes off, if engine start is attempted, alarm and interrupti...

Re: Searching for a e30 325 cab

Thought about trying a classic auction? ACA Classic auction (Kings Lynn) runs several times a year, easy to view before buying and loads of info on their web catalogue. Sure there's an equivalent for your part of the world as Norfolk's miles from anywhere! Usually good selection of 80s BMWs, at leas...

Everything was so shiny and new... We really need to get our heads together and crack time travel, think what all those shiny new MTech bits would be worth in today's market? Plus, thanks to inflation we'd practically be millionaires in the mid 80s. It's win win all round. Begsy one of those blue ja...

Re: Searching for a e30 325 cab

Bought my 1988 pre-facelift 325i cab just over two years ago and love it! Lucky to find a low mileage 2 owner car locally on a private sale. Totally original, massive history but getting too much for the owner, basically bought as a rolling project for a fraction of your budget. Spent a bit on it, s...

Speak to the guys on R3VLimited (US E30 forum), plenty of US spec bumpers going spare as they're all converting to Euro spec as they look better.

Anyone seen the awful US boot lids with the bump for the extra brake light? Talk about ruining the lines of the car!

Spotted this a few weeks ago fresh from resto at a local show. 1.6 SR, just like my old one back in '90.

Nice car, but it's no E30.

Re: Classic car weekly

My old man worked for Vauxhall, I had an ' 82 mk2 1.6GL, an '83 mk2 SR and an '89 mk3 jelly mould 1.6 GL when it was still quite a new car, about 3 years old. Loved the SR as it had alloys and Recaros and I was 18, first 'sporty' car. All good cars, but miles behind BMW in terms of quality. If they ...

Unusual colour combo but works perfectly. Like it a lot.

Leather looks amazing. Has it been re-dyed?

I had an '89 Merc 230E with a dealer fit Motorola phone, possibly the ultimate 80s interior option. Such a shame you can't use them anymore.

Both cars are overpriced in my opinion, however if I were selling I'd try my luck high especially as it's mid summer. The private sale, looks all good on ad, if all rings true and it's not hiding rot under the carpets etc £5k tops, seen similar for as low as £3.5k. The dealer car looks amazing in te...

The Motorsport is the holy grail of 325i cabs and prices reflect its holy grailness. Other than that it's down to taste and what's available. If you're on the hunt for one the one to buy is the one with the best shell you can find. Everything else can be changed easily enough to build the car you wa...

Any reason you're looking at manual 318i's? When the roof is down it's so much nicer listening to a six cylinder soundtrack, plus if you sell it a 325 will always be more desirable. I also think these cars are cruisers and lend themselves to auto boxes over manuals, however with a 4 pot I would prob...

£5k sounds a reasonable budget, you're in good useable car territory. Loads advertised at the moment, it's a case of which ones actually look like the car described in the advert. For me I like history, originality and top of the list as little rust as possible. Better a solid car in the wrong spec ...

The key to paint is it's all in the preparation. The key to preparation is patience. Never be tempted to rush or take short cuts, give coats sufficient time to dry and sand back using progressively finer grades of wet and dry until the surface is glass smooth. Finally when painting apply lots of lig...

Just sold my Del Sol, 1995, 170k, still tight as a drum. Look after stuff properly and it lasts, most cars should be able to hit 250k if serviced properly.

That's a big no all round then. Advice taken, and a new OEM element will be going ba...
