M20B25 had slight rod knock, found a rod bearing fractured in two!

I'd had a slight ticking noise at higher RPM for a while which I thought was top end noise, or a noisy injector, or a slight manifold leak, but I addressed all of these things and the noise persisted. It then became a distinctive rod bearing 'tap', at which point I stopped driving the car and tore i...

Re: Advice on alignment specs for fast road needed please? (car specs within!)

I have a question, what’s a pillow ball? Furthermore ‘set ups’ do depend on personal preference when it comes to track driving for sure. What settings are you asking for? I assume toe, camber and ride height? What spring rates are you running on the car? What you say ‘race’ what makes the dampers r...

It has to be the boiled variety...lasts really well... used it for years...

Paul :-)
Were your trims just not that faded to begin with? Do you only drive your car in the dry and keep it in a garage? Or do you re-apply it daily? Haha

Its also really greasy.

Re: E30 Trim restoration

Anything you do will be temporary. Either paint them with satin or matte black direct to plastic paint, use a heat gun with care, or buy new ones. Nothing you wipe over them will last long. Even that expensive C4 "permanent" trim restorer only lasts a year or so at most. No idea why they are allowed...

Re: E30 Trim restoration

Linseed oil lasts about a week before the trims start going patchy and fading again, if the car lives outside and gets rained on etc. It might last a few months if the car is parked indoors and never goes anywhere.

I removed mine completely because it was in the way of my sill repair and I never put it back.

But it used to be poked into the front chassis leg.

I'll have a look on the springs to see what I can find out. :)

Yeah a pillow ball is basically a rose joint, but when looking for parts you probably won't get far searching for rose joints. Pillow ball, for better or for worse, seems to be the accepted term at least when trying to buy parts online!

Advice no longer required thankyou. :) Hi guys and girls  Before I get started, please PLEASE don't hit me with hearsay and conjecture, I want solid information. Oil for 200K mile M20B25?

Hi all, just wondering what oil you would recommend for my car. Its a 325i with 195,000 miles on the clock. It is currently running 10W40 semi synthetic, but in its advancing years and bearing in mind the fact that I do drive the car hard at times, I was wondering if I should try a heavier oil? I'm ...

One weird insurance anomaly turned up recently. Apparently Caterhams cost buttons for young drivers  I quite like the idea of being dry and not instantly phooked in a crash though. I did notice how a 1.0 49BHP Lupo costs exactly the same to insure as a 1.4 16v 100BHP Lupo Sport when I w...
