Re: WHERE CAN I IMPORT AN E30
I've found myself browsing Gumtree SA before now. RHD and guaranteed rust free - there are definitely attractions.. Why would it be guaranteed rust free? There is a lot of coast in South Africa and it isn't always that hot in all parts. Roads are a lot harder on the cars as well. I have also owned ...

Welcome to the Zone - looks like a good car, hopefully should serve you well. M10's like to pressurize their cooling systems. I had symptoms that sound exactly the same as yours. When you are topping up are you doing ...

It is possible that it is the cable right next to the sender.
I don't think the senders fail that often, but I think they are only around £15 or so.
You have checked the fuse is OK?

In the US, they don't have such stringent fuel standards as we do in Europe. The fuels have less detergents etc in them (which is SOME of the reason why it is cheaper). Re: What to do with my old E30
E30's are at an age where body work is probably the most important thing.
If it has good body work, then it is probably worth fixing.
If it has rust issues, then probably better to break.

Re: Rust Proofing - Waxoyl or Dinitrol?
On this subject, I would have thought the most important thing is how you apply it rather than anything else. I'm thinking about doing a course on a car. On my Landcruiser it had no suspension on it and was high up on big axle stands -but was still very messy. But on a normal car this would be more ...

Another vote for bilthamber products. Seriously easy to use and in independent test the perform much better than competitors. I used Dynax s50 on my 20 year old landcruiser and I fully expect to still be able to see in on the salty Mozambique coast in 5 years time... They are more expensive that wax...

By far the best ones are the VW part ones. They actually use them to keep their new car batteries topped up while in transit. They have the best type of solar and they have all the right diodes so your battery doesn't go flat. Can't find any on UK but here is what the look like. http://www.ebay.co.u...

Re: E30 export to New Zealand
More seriously, NZ does not have much of a car manufacturing industry, unlike Australia which does. So import is less of a problem. If you are however only going for a year - why import it? Just use a Carnet. Have a chat with Paul Gowen at the RAC. (just google Carnet / RAC). Oh and it is perfectly ...

I remember using a load o silicone sealant to seal them on a while ago. And the made sure I carried around knife / flat screw drive to get them off again if needed. I actually think after a few of the clips have broken behind them the actually fall off pretty easy.

My thoughts are a cheap android phone (you can get an Orange pay as you go one for £80-£100 here; http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/phones/sale) Then install one of the located applications so you can track the phone. Once this is all done you need to think of a way to hide the phone in the car...

Yea get some breakdown cover - not just for if you break down, but if someone crashes into you. I remember Brainmooooore got caught out in Germany after a Porsche crashed into him. I can't believe the disparity between different places. I'm currently using my sisters 1.2 3cylinder Seat Ibiza (2003) its got a huge mileage so only worth about £1k. M10 doesn't have an idle control valve - only and air slide valve but I doubt this would be causing the issue.
Is it injection or Carb?
Have you looked at the rubber hose from the air flow meter to the inlet? This may have cracks in it which causes the symptoms you describe.

The 'African' solution to breaking the bead is to just drive over it... It could go wrong more easily though and damage two wheels!

Re: Removing Tyres.
Use the standard BMW jack. Put the wheel flat, Put the bottom of the jack on the tyre, then the top of the jack on the car. (car might need to be raised already to get it all to fit) Then jack the car up, if you do it round the front of the car, the weight of the engine should "break" the bead. Do t...

yea ardlight (or however you spell it) is soo useful. I fixed a very leaky radiator with it and a whole host of other things... Gaffer tape is actually strong enough to tape a piece of wood around a borken suspension arm to get you home! quality zip ties will be useful for so many different things.

RE- what spares to carry. The two things to consider are weight and murphys law. If you carry to much weight you will put more strain on the engine / suspension and brakes. Liquids are very heavy. Murphys law is basically the fact that what ever spares you take, it will be the other things that brea...

Awesome idea - a road trip is the best way to really see how far you have travelled. My biggest piece of advice though is spend as much time on it as possible, you can race at Santa Pod - but the stuff you will miss on route if you rush through you will never get back. There are some incredible peop...

Oh and if the motor does not make a noise and you can't get it to work, connected a 12v bulb to the electrical connections to see if they are all ok.

Re: jet wash problem
Has it been iced up? A lot of cheap screen wash from Tesco's etc only protects you down to -5c and it's been much colder than that!
Give the motor a little tap if it does not make a noise, if it does unplug the hose somewhere and investigate where a blockage may be.
