Hi. Are the rear outer wheel housings for 2 door facelifts still available? I have a a 1988 325i. The last 7 digits of the vin are 2862145. I think the part numbers are

It's Xmas day and I'm on the internet looking at e30zone. How sad am I?

Re: Rear wheel arch

Is it structural? I'm talking about the exterior join where the rear 1/4 panel folds back in, above the tyre and meets the inner arch/wheel housing. Hope it's not too structural seeing as most e30s are made of filler in this area.... Mine definitely was! I did some research and 3m do a 2 part panel ...

Rear wheel arch

I'm hoping to fit my new rear inner wheel arch, (technically speaking, it's a rear outer wheel housing), this weekend. I was planning to spot/plug weld the arch lips together like they do at the factory but my experience with weld through primer is that it prevents a good weld. There is also the iss...

Re: Welding

Thanks for the link. I'll have a look in a bit. I've been using upol #2. It creates soot when I weld near it and makes the wire explode rather than build up a pool of metal. I tried adjusting my mig settings and I've tried argon/co2 and straight co2 but there is no improvement. The primer is also re...

Welding

Looking for a bit of advice. I'll be welding in a rear inner arch panel this week. I plan on plug welding the arch lips together using a mig welder as I don't have a spot welder, but I'm concerned about rust coming back due to unpainted metal on the arch lips where they meet. I'd like to paint them ...

Re: Bonnet/hood conversion question

I don't want to take the bonnet off at all, that's the point. If I buy a lightweight bonnet I don't see the point in fitting it using the original hinge mechanism if it weighs a lot, but I don't want to fit and secure it purely using bonnet pins and have to remove the bonnet completely when I need e...

Re: Bonnet/hood conversion question

I'd forgotten I posted this enquiry. Hairyscreech, If I go to the expense of getting a lightweight bonnet I'd rather not have to completely remove it to gain engine access. It's easy enough, granted, but would definitely need good quality bonnet pins! I just don't want to put it on the ground where ...

Bonnet/hood conversion question

One of the most characteristic and unconventional features of the E30 is the front hinged bonnet. Has anyone ever converted it to rear mounted hinges? Probably too much hassle to do, but would it save even more weight if fitting a lightweight bonnet for racing? It seems pointless fitting a lightweig...

Re: Rounded off spark plug

A better spark plug socket would be the 1st thing to try, maybe after 10 mins of soaking with penetrating oil. Maybe not on a hot engine though. If not, knocking a slightly smaller sized long reach socket onto the spark plug or using a multi-size socket might work. Tapping it undone with a hammer an...

Swirl pot

Anyone here use a swirl pot for the fuel supply on their 325i? I bumped into someone a while back who raced in the pbmw series who used one due to fuel starvation because he was using the standard fuel tank. I didn't get a chance to look at his set up. Any advice?

Re: Rear corner body panels..

BMW don't sell repair or patch panels. You'd have to buy a complete rear 1/4 panel and cut off the bits you need. If you want just the bit below the bumper, there are plenty of places that will supply one but it will be a "pattern" part and may not be an exact copy. Also, there is a difference betwe...

Exhaust pipes and lowered car

I have a 325i (not on the road at present and definitely not concours) and it's been lowered by the previous owner. The exhaust pipe runs underneath the rear subframe and I predict a speed hump to exhaust coming together issue occurring in the future. What do people do to limit the problem, apart fr...

Ez-out? Easy snap, more like. Only used one once and it snapped. Was lucky though, it snapped above the seized stud so I had something to grip and undo. I don't think you'll be able to drill it out as they are too hard. If you have access to tig welding equipment you may be able to weld a blob onto ...

Start it, run it at a fast idle speed for a minute, take the revs up to 3000rpm for a minute or 2 to run in the cam then let it idle whilst you set up fuel mixture and timing but not for too long. Idling for long periods is not a good idea. Switch it off and check for leaks. Check tappets and head b...

I don't know about that.. It's a good idea. It means you could use the cheaper camber adjustment only strut mounts as well and have adjustable front suspension. Ok for track use but with a rose joint it might be a bit harsh on the road.

How good is JB weld? I read that it's used to re-shape cylinder head ports. Has anyone used it for this purpose? Wondered how permanent it is.
