Re: car cover

Whatever you do, get the right season rating. If you want winter only, make sure you dont use it in strong sunlight. I found out to my cost that a £150 3 season cover will fall apart after a year of u/v exposure. When the manufacturer says its for certain conditions, believe them, it is. make sure i...

Re: looking for opinions or options please

Aaahh... the age-old question, "Do I spend more money on a car that isnt worth the cost of the repair. The answer is, if you really have to sit and think about it then its a NO. A classic car is a bottomless pit financially. If you really think you can do better with that money then let it go, suffe...

Re: Driving an E30 in snow, share your tech tips.

I was a simple-minded young man back in 1990 when me and my old pa went down to Sandal BMW in Wakefield, West Yorks one fine none-snowy day to purchase our now 27yr old 320i. After much discussion I piped-up " its rear-wheel drive, whats it like in snow", salesmans reply " couple of bags of sand ove...

I went outside , took the cover off, drove it over the Beacons for an hour or so, took it back, put the cover on and decided it was time for it to go to another home. Re: What are the first things to do on a newly bought E30?

This may sound like p#####g on a very pleasent parade but capri-rob has said words of wisdom. If you cant see rust, look for some. If you CAN see it, you wont have to look far for some more in all the favourite places. You then have to assess if you can afford to spend 1500 quid plating all that rus...

Am in my car boot sometime today. I ll have a gander at my wiring diagrams. This has been a thorn in my arse for years on and off and plenty more owners as well. Looking at what you have in your hand, someone has been messing with it already. That looks like solder and non standard bmw pvc tape goin...

Re: Outdoor car covers.. or not..

To be honest, I was well chuffed with the performance of mine, as good as a garage. When I got it it felt heavy, thick as if it was made for the job but it literally just fell apart over-night. You wouldnt believe it unless you saw it for yourself.

Re: Battery keeps dieing?

How quick is it draining it and what do you mean by a run. Are you putting enough back in it. How old is the battery, what type is it-wet, gel. Borrow a current clamp and check the output of the alternator for starters- current and then voltage with a meter, give it a good run -say 20 mile round tri...

Ive always looked at cars this way.. Whats the point in putting fancy fittings in a house if the walls are starting to fall down. Main issue is always going to be the rust. You can see the tip of the iceberg so there has to be another 70% lurking about somewhere in all the favourite places, and beli...

Outdoor car covers.. or not..

Noticed a thread on here a week or so ago regarding the best choice of cover. I had bad experience of covers with a motorhome I had so when the bimmer was painted I decided to go for a good quality one. It fits like a glove, mirror pockets, elasticated, straps the lot. Couldnt fault it... until 3 da...

Drive shaft oil leak

Just done a good 500 mile run up-north and back and had a bit of a check underneath and have spotted a slight oil leak. seems to be coming from around the off-side flange area. What seals are associated with that part of the shaft and is it a straight-forward job for a nice day in the drive. Looked ...

..got an original kit from main dealers, scraped off the old with a decorators scraper, used some sandpaper on what was left, got a can of spray glue, applied it to the adhesive on the foam as if there was none there already, banged it on... solid. Wont come off in a month of Sundays.

Have to agree with Brian. Instrument cluster and speedo related problems.

This is an ongoing issue as most of us are aware of and its got a pretty straight forward cure : Diff sensor, signal wiring and cluster. Replace one or all of them and thats usually problem solved. The more curious or brave of us sometimes dig a little deeper as in opening up the cluster and looking...
