im from Australia and got them through a guy who sources bm parts from europe. the company that made them is SIDEM in belgium.
problem is as with all internet based transactions. no one wants to know or cant be contacted to discuss.

tie rod lock plates dont fit
i got some new tie rods but the knuckle on the rack end ball joint is bigger than the old tie rods so the lock plates dont fold over enough. anyone else had this problem?
the tie rods are from a belgium company and their parts calalogue does not include the lock plates.

this happened on mine too. thought about welding but was told it would just happen again. i un bolted the motor, raised it up a bit on a trolley jack and swaped the whold subframe out. the power steer has to come out too and the whole thing was a pita. sorry to hear.

a seal kit is available from the US. i have come across it on a website. bmw do not carry anything for the power steering rack. sorry i dont have any part no.s but it does exist somewhere.

you guys got it lucky over there. im from aust and although you can get lots of stuff easy, a lot still has to come from germany (6-8 weeks!!!)

changed mine from a dead empty rack and it was just on 1lt. youll have enough to change it yearly for the next five years. now thats preventative maintainance

2nd hand racks only come with a 3month warranty dont they?
$170 for one - thats a pretty good price. I just swaped one out on my e30 and it was $300 second hand from parramatta prestige.

i just finished fitting a rack from a 323 (84-86?) onto my 320 (89). fit no probs... except the father in law likes getting things to line up by hitting them with hammers and we broke the mount on the new rack :cry: we then rebuilt the old rack with the parts from the new rack and fitted it back in....

not sure if im completely stupid but trying to use the jack, the side of the jack hits the side of the car before it actually fits under the car!! what am I doing wrong or is there something missing off my jack?
