Would the pin shorting bypass all relays and switches (thus proving it to be the starter?)

Have you done the basics? checked the fuses? made sure the relay's under the bonnet are in and secure? (give the white one a tap with a screwdriver handle) any loose/broken wires around the starter? My E36 328i currently showing 31.2 ave on OBC, but that's a lot of motorway/A road driving, it plummets in town or when I boot it. and it is very tempting to boot it.

Could also be a switch shorting - I had same symptoms but mine kept blowing fuse 17, fitted a new switch to nearside front and so far so good (so no doubt it will blow now)
