Re: Fitting an e36 gearbox to a e30 318i
Instead of spending money on all different props to offer up, I took my original prop down to "Bar Props" and had it shortened by 23mm and balanced for only £50. Problem solved. But nothing is straight forward, put oil in my gearbox to find it dripping on me. Only a crack along side the exhaust moun...

Re: Fitting an e36 gearbox to a e30 318i
Cheers boys. I'll try and get my hands on a e36 prop and offer it up. I have read in the e30 wiki that there is a shorter prop fitted to the 318is. Both 318i n 318is have the same box in shape n size just 3rd is a lower ratio in the IS box. But to fit a 318i gearbox to a IS you also must swap the pr...

Re: Fitting an e36 gearbox to a e30 318i
Well I have carried out the box swap and realised from my own experience a couple of mods needed for this job. The e30 gear linkage fits the e36 but needs to be shortened by 10mm, The e30 rubber guibo needs to be drilled out to 12mm to match the e36 box bolts, but what has puzzled me is why the prop...

Fitting an e36 gearbox to a e30 318i
Iv purchased an e36 gearbox from a 318 for its lower ratios and would like to know what issues there are with fitting this box to a e30 318i? Thinking of swaping them this weekend, Is this swap a straight forward job? Your information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'l investigate again. But I don't think that is it. It ain't that type of grinding noise. Would LSD plates make a noise if worn?

Re:
I've checked that, good clearance there, if that was the case it would be grinding when driving in a straight line as well. Thanks tho.

Rear grinding noise

It now runs bilstain challenge spec shocks n springs, eibach anti roll bars, fully poly bushed, disk beam with a 3.91 LSD medium case. Co...

Re: Problem with the e30 Steering Rack Conversion
Thanks guys iv sorted it, iv bent the rack brackets 20 degrees down so it twisted the rack away from the exhaust manifold. The job looks solid. I'v just got to make the UJ spacer 15mm larger and she will be mint! Sorted.

Re: Problem with the e30 Steering Rack Conversion
Cheers mate, mine has about 5mm gap between the splined shaft of the steering rack and the exhaust manifold. So tight that I cant get the uj joint over it. I was wondering if there are any other down pipes available which are tight to the engine to give me space?

Problem with the e30 Steering Rack Conversion
I'm in the middle of fitting a M3 e36 rack to my e30 318i. Everything has gone to plan with mounting the rack to the car and modifying the UJ joint using the guide which is posted in the e30 zone wiki. But would anybody know why UJ joint is touching my exhaust manifold? I cant fit the UJ joint to th...
