Re:
I really think those weaves looked the best, just needed to be a little wider or have some spacers added. Big fan of the whole thing otherwise.

Re:
Damn. I've always wanted a TD BMW engine in my touring. Too bad there are so few running around over here.
All it needs now is wider/lower offset wheels. Ride height is just fine.

Also depends on what radiator you're using. I have a late model 325 rad and I'm using a stock M42 upper, unmodified.

Re: Creative brake booster options
I have no servo and two master cylinders/a bias bar where the servo used to be. This is on an S50 rally car and not ideal for a road car though :-( That's what I keep hearing in this thread but what exactly about it is so uncivilized for road driving? Increased pedal effort? Since it's coming from ...

Re: Creative brake booster options
Move the standard booster over towards the wing and use the e34 brake rod. (RHD) Although that's not the type of solution I'm looking to have thrown around it's great info to have. Parts for RHD cars aren't available used here, and I was just wanting to start a dialogue on different options. Person...

Creative brake booster options
I'm looking to do something besides the traditional route of a smaller booster. The Massivebrakes boosterless kit is great for left hander cars but for a right hand drive car I don't think it would work as we can't adjust the pickup point between the linkage and the master cylinder. Was looking at t...

Another question about M40 parts on an M42
I need to know if these parts from an M40 will work on an M42, both are E30 motors.

Re:
Did you have to modify them at all? Looks like you had to shorten the primaries where they meet the flange on the rearward one to clear the steering shaft.
Thanks for the help!

What exhaust manifolds are those? They don't look to be factory M52 pieces.

I'm just gonna get a set of LHD M52 manifolds and hack them up.

Ebay exhaust manifolds-clear steering shaft and rack?
I have a problem that I'm sure not many of you have run into. I have a right hand drive E30 in a left hand drive invironment and can only source left hand drive exhausts locally. The stock M50 vanos ones did not clear front or rear, and now I'm seeing that this is the norm for you chaps as well. I s...

1.8l M40 crankshaft fit M42?
Just completely tore down my M42 to reseal it and swap it in place of the M40 in my car. Came to find out there is far too much endplay and the crankshaft is ruined :x According to realoem they have different part numbers but if I could use the M40 one it would save me from sourcing a new one or bei...

Nope, it was the timing belt. Currently have an M42 completely torn down, waiting on more parts before I swap it in.

Re: What can swap M42->M40?
I don't have any access to another M40 to rob parts from, but I do have a friend with an M42 parts car. My long term plan is to get the M42 from him and swap it into my car, but short term if I could use the crank sensor or the DME from the M42 into my car to get it running it would be very much wor...

What can swap M42->M40?
So my car died quite suddenly as I was driving today. Just sputtered then stalled. Checked for spark and got nothing at the coil. Unplugged the DME and reinstalled, still no start.
I'm thinking either the DME suicided or the crank angle sensor gave up the ghost. What thinks you, chaps?

So all I would need to do is modify the exhaust piping? So long as it will clear the steering I'm good!

Re: Thinking of fittng an M42?
Yep, I've got a full E30 M42, just need that stupid exhaust manifold now. Will likely cost me more to get that than the engine itself.

Re: Thinking of fittng an M42?
Great, thank for the tip. I should have said E36 exhaust mani in my post above. I have a right hand drive touring here in Canada that was imported so all the M42's here have lhd exhaust manifolds and would interfere with the steering. So if a rhd E36 manifold will work in my rhd E30 with M42 swap I'...

Re: Thinking of fittng an M42?
So how much modification does the M42 exhaust manifold require to clear the steering shaft? I'm having a hard time sourcing an E30 one, but I found one from a 318ti.
