Re: Valve Removal the hard way

Yeah I've seen that too, although I don't think I could take the risk to be honest, I will probably just end up buying a new valve spring compressor

Valve Removal the hard way

I've run into a bit of bother with the stripping of the M40 engine head. I bought a valve spring compressor last week from ebay (not knowing much about them) and of course, I bought the wrong one. Before I buy the right one, does anyone know a way of removing valve springs without the compressor? Ch...

Re: M40B16 Camshaft lock

Thanks for your quick reply, I'm very interested in your offer, I'm in Northern Ireland though, I think postage would be of a similar mainland price. Do you have a paypal account? Seems to be the easiest way of payment.

Regards

M40B16 Camshaft lock

Hi everyone I'm in the process of stripping my 316i M40 engine but I'm at the stage where I need to lock the Camshaft and Crankshaft to remove the timing belt. I was able to lock the crank with a drill bit through the hole on the flywheel but I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way I could avoi...

But have you actually replaced them? A leaking gasket can be hard to spot.

Re:

Feel around the inlet manifold gaskets as well as rubber hoses, you could have unmetered air getting in here due to a bad gasket which can cause idling flucuations.

Central Locking - Deadlocked E30

As some of you know, I recently bought an E30 for restoration. Today was the first proper day that I got a chance to check stuff out in detail. At the minute, my biggest problem is the doors. Both rear doors (4door model) appear to be deadlocked as they won't budge from the inside, outside or lockin...

Re: Seized doors

nah, I haven't really had to tinker, and the battery is knackered so central locking doesn't show up

Seized doors

Hi

I picked up an e30 for restoration a few weeks ago and although I have not had the time to start tinkering, I know that the rear door are completed stuck and will not open. the locks also remain locked. Any ideas before I get stuck in?

Cheers

Re:

sounds like it to me, you've probably stripped away more than you need too, however this is good, this narrows the problem down. give the gaskets a good chipping with a lump hammer and a decent flathead screwdriver.

Re:

No worries, mine was the same, car sat for 4 years and one of the gaskets had persihed, had a nightmare pulling the manifold off but I just thought i'd chip at the rest of the gaskets until they budge, I was replacing them anyway, so there was nothing lost. Let us know how you get on.

I know exactly what your talking about. I did it not so long ago on an M20 2.0 Are you entirly sure you've removed every bolt? There should be 12 bolts, two for each cylinder. Also depending on whether the manifold gaskets have ever been changed or not (which they definitely should have) they may be...

13 Button OBC and Overhead check lights

Hi
Forgive me if this has already been answered on this forum.

Can a 13 button OBC be installed into any e30? I have a 316i '91

Also, are the overhead checklights part of the 13 button OBC, if not can these also be installed too?

cheers
