if you want them 100% perfect then you could spend as much time looking for perfectly round tyres as wheels

also don't bother what model it's off. they fitted them to all sorts - compacts, 330s etc, its just the purple label and number you need.

Re: Camber Top Plates - Spring noise when turning!
you won't, i think you'd need to have the mount modified to take a different bearing - although then you still very well may find it's the same situation. i came to the conclusion that due to the angle of my topmounts it doesn't matter what bearing i used it would bind with how it's loaded - if you ...

Re: Camber Top Plates - Spring noise when turning!
i cant see that it would hurt seeing as the piston is constantly moving up and down on the seals, so a small rotation (it only moves a few degrees, not like it spins round and round) shouldn't kill things.

Re: Camber Top Plates - Spring noise when turning!
get a pair of needle roller bearings to sit in between the spring and the top cap - i got told by a guy who rallied mk2 escorts its common with this type of topmount apparently. thats what ive done with mine and i have the same topmounts - no issues now - steering is lovely and smooth. these: http:/...

Re: Track rod ends
the rack doesnt matter. i had an e30 rack, then got an e46 purple label, ordered new e30 inners and rod ends, which fit fine and do the job just the rod ends are bigger - so from a bit of looking round i suspect theyre actually e36 ones

yes they are - i had oem trackroad on mine, schmidt ml fitted no issues, changed the rack and got new rod ends - i *think* they were e36 ones cause theyre a chunk bigger and the schmidts no longer fitted

play in prop centre bearing
How much is too much? It's not obviously ruined but I can move the prop about 8mm so is this likely to cause issues?

i dont mind making tools etc just cant get my head around how you measure the preload does this need to be done before the diff comes apart and then rebuilt to the same?

if its looks brown and burnt it wont be performing properly so change it - in a good system should still be red so you're going to notice a change.

yeah heres a pic, there is a spacer between the top cap and the topmount as the spherical bearing sits slightly inside the top mount.

Re: Camber top mounts with stock top hats
diy coilovers will run you to about 50 for the weld on sleeves and top cap and about 60 for springs. i know on mine i have to run a spacer to allow enough space for the spherical bearing to articulate without hitting the coilover top cap anyway.

Re: Front camber plates
i've got some of those on mine, seem ok (not amazing quality but good enough) although it seems that the spherical bearing doesn't like to rotate freely under load so i've bought some needle bearings to fit inbetween the spring and top cap - a la escort boys.

Re: fill inner arches / arch repairs?
as said, rear arches are structural - so any repair must be fully welded for safety - if you bodged it as suggested above you'd need to hide the bodge with lots of sealer and underseal so the mot tester couldn't tell - which is obviously a stupid thing to do. no part of the car body shell is made of...

gun gum should hold it for the mot but it wont last long so dont bother, just get it welded - any decent local garage would probably do it for beer money if you take the box off and drop it in

Re: Fitting a 3 point harness
you can't really safely fit harnesses and keep the rear seat usable as the best place (in a standard car) to anchor them is at the base of the rear seat back. some people anchor the harness to the floor behind the front seat but this is NOT safe.

e46 rack swap - opinions on manual converting rack please
i'm currently doing the 067 e46 rack swap onto a manual rack e30, and it seems a bit of a mish mash as to how people manual the rack, i THINK my options are: 1) just drain all the fluid, and dust seal (but not sir seal) the pipe unions - supposedly can make the rack jerky and possibly stiffer. 2) pi...

cheers for that mate, it confused me a bit cause realm lists it as 13641734776 but then googling it seems to show that part number being for a 1989 (so facelift). i thought pre and post facelift would be different injectors?

are all purple label '067' racks the same regardless of what model they came off of?
i've seen them off 330s, 320ds etc and the label is the same (apart from the stamped numbers across the bottom), so are they still the same no of turns etc?
cheers in advance.

Re: Change of wheels, Feels like handbrake is stuck on. HELP
it seems that the handbrake mech is a bit fragile unless the backplates are perfect anyway. i've ended up welding washers into my backplate so i can put bolts through to hold the shoes instead of of the twist pins as they kept falling to bits.

you might be lucky and it's just dislodged something so possibly get away with taking it apart and rebuilding.
