Re: 1990 325i auto to manual

The socket for the reverse lights on an E30 is found inside the cabin, just in front of where the gear lever is on a manual. On an auto E30, the reverse light switch is mounted on the selector lever, inside the cabin, an connects to the reverse light socket by a loom a few inches long. On a manual E...

By the way, I agree with the whole lithium nonsense - they'll be banned before they get a grip - Lithium batteries won't need to get banned - they'll just become obsolete (like the low energy CFL lamps) as a different and improved battery technology takes over, just as we've already moved from Nick...

Just read another article in a magazine that states that ULEZ requirements in London can be met by converting to LPG and notifying the DVLA. It's of no interest to me, since I haven't been inside the M25 for twenty years, and have no intention of doing so any time soon, but for those E30 owners who ...

The poor starting from cold, poor running for a while after it starts, but starting and running better with the throttle wide open are classic symptoms of fuel pooling somewhere in the inlet plenum while the car is parked. As a test, instead of stopping the car with the key, pull out fuse 11 (fuel p...

The only reason the collar nut would be loose on a prop. that's been removed from a car is to close it up on the splines to make it easier to remove.
If there's not a lot of spline showing, this is almost certainly s 325i manual prop.

If you use sealant on a sump gasket, use it very sparingly. Any that squeezes out inside the sump is very effective at blocking the filter mesh on oil pick up pipes.

The banning is of new diesel and petrol cars, so since there's little chance of any new E30s being planned for production after 2030, it won't really affect us. Temp switch should be set to switch on at slightly more than the running temp. of the engine, which for a M20B25 is 80 degrees, so around 85 degrees.
I'd think twice about the conversion, though. An electric fan set up is MUCH less reliable than a viscous coupling.

There's almost certainly no leak, just inadequate drainage. Contrary to what most assume, the cavities, such as the sills and inside the doors of cars, are not supposed to keep water out, just ensure it doesn't get into the cabin. This also applies to the sunroof. The seal is just to prevent wind no...

Depends if you want to tighten up the rear end, or allow it to perform as designed.
The void is to allow controlled movement of the beam under lateral load, o as to introduce a small amount of rear steer to help balance the car.

You need to get the motor fully working, powered up in your hand, before refitting in the car. That way you hold the motor at various angles, taking advantage of the end play on the shaft to work the oil right into the bearings, and clean off excess oil before you refit. Quote from my first post: "b...

Early M20 engines did use a different timing belt, with a square edged tooth, and one less of them, but I think very few, if any, of these made it into E30s. Unless you know it to have been replaced recently, it's a good idea to change the water pump while the timing belt is off, since the timing be...
