handbrake cable renewal problem
Hi, I've been restoring the rear axle of my 316 (carburettor model from 11/1987) A couple of weeks ago i took out the old handbrake cables and threw them away, but apperantly there is a ring or a clip there where the handbrake cable enters the dustpanel (arrow on picture) But when my new cables arri...

Re:
i know it sounds weird to do that , but as i never go over 3500-4000 RPM . I tought it was more interesting to have for example 70HP at 3000RMP and 80 at 6000 than 50 at 3000 RPM and 90 at 6000. Maybe i should buy a 324TD...tough it s weird to hear diesel sound comming out of an e30

tuning down an M10
Hello, As i use my 316 with weber carb (32/34 dmtl) in daily traffic , i was wondering if it was possible to have more torque at lower RPM by just putting smaller intakes and putting smaller intake valves.... I know i will loose horsepower in high RPM if i do that , but i don't care. I am just wonde...

Re: did weber conversion , cold start requires to push gas p
I adjusted my mixture screw with a air/fuel meter to a co% of 0,5% . It was at 5% , mixture was too rich... Now it starts perfectly and without pushing gas pedal. It also consumes less fuel now , yesterday i drove 210km with 15 litres of fuel (80% of freeway at 120km/h , 20 % smaller roads at 70 - 9...

Re: did weber conversion , cold start requires to push gas p
indeed DHFis , its a manual choke, the original pierburg carb had automatic choke , i tried it with choke completly on , half on , and no choke --> all 3 had same problem. Once the engine starts and i put it off immidiatly , and than try again ,it will start directly. Once it turns , engine turns re...

well , that works correct . Tough , I had problems with that a couple off months ago ,the metal between the electromotor and nylon lever arm kept falling off. Had to put it back every time i wanted to start. Also the temp sensor on the intake , wich is responsible for the position of the elctromotor...

rechterachterwiel blokkeert bij het remmen
Yo,
betreft:bmw 316 , 1987

problem with sticking choke solved , not replaced by weber
On my 316 , from 1987, My choke kept on , even when engine was hot . problem was the temprature sensor located between carburetor and valves. When engine was hot it's resistance was too high , so i replaced it , problem solved. I added 2 pics of this sensor , for those who might experience choke pro...

question about the electromotor of the chokevalve
Hello, (about bmw 316, 1987, 2BE pierburg carb, 1800cc engine) The elctromotor of my choke valve always turns in the same direction so that the choke valve is always closed , even when engine is hot. I measured the voltage on the wires of the elctromotor , this was 12v. Is it suppose to turn to -12V...

fuel consumption meter broken on 316
Hello,
The fuel consumption meter on my 1987 316 carburetter bmw doesnt work anymore. Where and how is fuel consumption measured and what could be the problem ? Tacho doesnt work either , sometimes it comes up for like 5 seconds. Anyone an idea ?

Re: bmw 316 1987 engine problems
It's about ten years since I played with one of these, so the memory is a little hazy! I think it's a white tubular structure, but the wires going to it should be a giveaway! Without the resistor there is no feedback loop, so the ECU cannot attempt to control the idle speed, whatever bodges you use...

Re: bmw 316 1987 engine problems
I did a post on this not long ago! The idle speed is controlled electronically using a vacuum operated actuator, with a variable resistor providing a feedback loop. The printed track of the variable resistor has worn out, so the feedback loop is open, and the idle is not controlled. Not repairable ...

Hi, I have a 316 bmw from 1987 with 1800 carburettor engine. When cold the engine starts properly and the engine goes fine , but when warm the engine stops running at every red light and is difficult to start ( i have to push the gas pedal at maximum) I also have the impression that the idle speed i...
