Sorted!!!! It was not exactly a cakewalk but I made it. the motor was intact, and had slipped out of the bottom of the window, like Chris said. Without diagrams and a reluctance to compare with the other door, I finally made sense of which tracks the regulator goes into... and bingo... within 2 hour...
