Re: 88 325is cooling/temperature issue

My E30 struggles to stay cool in heat/traffic with the air conditioning on but I have no viscous fan, an 80/88 switch in the rad will bring the elec fan on earlier which will help your situation. The condenser rad will be having an eff...

Re: 88 325is cooling/temperature issue
I rebuilt the cluster last evening (replaced odo gears, cleaned everything including the contact surfaces UNDER the nuts and tightened the nuts).
Then,, it was downpouring. Didn't get the cluster back in.
Plan on putting it back together tonight.

Re: 88 325is cooling/temperature issue
Yeah, it should be 80c, and a rise in running temp when you stop is pretty usual - at least my 325 M20 does it. ( no electric fan ) Paul :-) In the ,, 15 or so E30's I have been involved with, I have never seen the temp climb up when coming to a stop and the engine still running. Well, I did on the...

Re: 88 325is cooling/temperature issue
is the viscous fan working correctly , some of the cheap viscous units are crap. when idling with a hot engine you should not be able to stop the fan with a rolled magazine. and a piece of paper against the Front grill should hold there due to the suck from the fan. does the temp drop if you put th...

Re: 88 325is cooling/temperature issue
I thought of that as the tach jumps around. I have a new set of gears in and will be rebuilding the instrument cluster this evening.martauto wrote:Have you checked the little brass nut behind the dash onto the temp gauge ?
It can work loose and even fall off giving in both cases a false reading.

Re: 88 325is cooling/temperature issue
I did not specifically look at the thermostat to see if it was stamped, RealOEM claims it's an 80c one. the one I pulled out was stamped 80.paultv wrote:What thermostat did you fit? I mean temperature wise??
