Am thinking of buying one but unsure of what they're like, seen a few 540i's for £5000ish I'm guessing they're pretty rapid, insurance is ok for me what about servicing etc and what sort of fuel consumption can i expect? My right foot isnt ove...

Re: strut brace..is it worth it
I think the olny problem is if its fitted properly (bolted through each turret, not using self tappers) then obviously a front wheel/wing knock could transfer the impact to the other inner wing Loads of Corsas/Saxos have em self tapped in place so they look cool on a Friday night but i bet very few ...

brakes seem non existent
any ideas? shes been stood for a year and just finally got her back together, the only brake work done was when changing the rear drivers side hub and trailing arm assy, so the caliper was disconnected and re-fitted (and bled). Taken her out for a spin but the brakes do seem very soft, certainly wou...

Same as Zaust says Fuzzy, unburnt fuel being dumped into atmosphere (via exhaust) and igniting.. Higher powered cossies often do it with no source of ignition, and the last few yrs have seen every other turbo'd car have a flamer kit (a spark plug drilled into their exhaust and a switch on dash) fitt...

I'd imagine Fuzzy's got one of the most tuneable for cheap power lumps... I remember seeing an E30 in Max Power 14 years ago with a YB Cossie conversion was in the running for car of the year, its what started my love affair with anything E30 or from Costin and Duckworths portfolio

Engine swaps - legality and declaring it
It dawned on me lots of us are slipping 325 lumps into our old 320's etc but how many of you tell you insurance, and change the details on the log book etc? I'm guessing its a bit different when you're doing YB cossie or 850i transplants but for a straight forward like for like swap who tells what?

Never realised how much I missed driving my cab, its been well over a year had far too much on with a house move, renovate from top to bottom, training for work blah blah (couple of holidays in there too though) and finally got round to getting the cab roadworthy, been up and had 2 tyres swapped rou...

cheers tankas! well i went out and got another litre in her, so shes now got close to 4.5 litres of coolant mix and had her on tick over for 30 mins, the highest the temp gauge read this time was a fraction over half way, which I know is about right. No more air comes out the bleed nipple, just cool...

putting back together a new rear assembly and looking at a couple of exploded diagrams on net there looks like a washer (called securing plate) that goes between the shaft itself and the 30mm hub nut. is it a simple swap over job, unplug fuel pips and quickly connect new filter without spilling too much fuel, or will it need bleeding or anything after its changed?

Been told if the 2 plugs (fill and drain) are directly above one another its an LSD, if they're opposite sides of the back end of the diff (sort of 1 at 1 o'clock, other at 7 o'clock) its a open diff
Think thats right anyways

If you do i guess you can do it off car, i been advised to loosen the top plug first (when in situ) just in case you get the bottom drain plug out, then the top fill plug rounds off = new diff/lots of tears

abs driveshaft same as non abs?
cant get the old drive shaft off the wishbone assy from a non ABS cab (think it started life as 318i). The spare one ive got was off a 325, the shafts measure up the same in length but the ABS one looks like the end where it joins the diff is 1 - 2 cm thicker than the old one that came off
