Re: Help! I'm locked out
Cheers guys. Did it in the end. The boot was just frozen so I chucked some hot water at it - did the trick though it re-froze again pretty soon after! Driver's door took some hot water, patience, perserverence, and WD40. Wriggled it enough in the end. After all that made it about 50metres before sli...

Help! I'm locked out
I'm locked out of my 325 sport. The dead locks are on, and I've tried lifting the handle when turning the key. Not sure if it's due to the weather (it's -5C outside!)... Also I can't get the key into the boot lock - pretty sure this is frozen. Gonna get some hot water on it in a mo, but can anyone o...

Re: Steering a bit shaky under braking? Any ideas
I had a steering wobble under braking before and assumed I had warped the discs or something but it was fixed when I replaced my control arm bushes. The bushes looked old but not fully knackered (they were on the MOT advisory list though) but the new ones gave the steering and braking much more dire...

Re: Removing front wishbones
Just thought I'd update you guys... So, it turns out getting tapered ball joints out is a massive PITA! They were in there good and solid. 5 days of hammering before the wishbones came off! :o I would recommend this type of ball joint splitter for the outer ball joints. Once the outer ones are off t...

Re: Removing front wishbones
Cheers for the help guys. I'm going to borrow a ball joint seperator from a mate later (if the rain goes away) and see how I get on. I'll let you know... When it comes to putting all the new bits on is there anything I should know? I can get the control arm bushes pressed out and the new eccentric o...

Removing front wishbones
Hi, I'm in the process of removing and replacing my front wishbones and control arm bushes. I've undone the control arm bush lollipop bolts, the ARB connection and the 2 nuts that hold the wishbone to hub and subframe... yet I still can't get the wishbone off! Am I missing something? Do I just need ...

I think the guy in Hove that Ian's on about is probably AJ Robertson. He's at:
9 Victoria Grove (off 2nd Ave), Hove, East Sussex, BN3 2LJ
Tel: 01273 770838
I've had him recommended to me a number of times before, but not used him yet. Has excellent reviews on here

Re: High idle - Brianmooore can you help?
When I've run an engine with the ICV blanked off, they generally run very lumpy and on the point of stalling, so somewhere around 450 RPM I would guess. This is set to just above stalling now. Set the stop back like this, and check (electrically) that the TPS operates when the throttle moves just o...

Re: High idle - Brianmooore can you help?
Thanks Brian. The rich running is now sorted. I think someone before me had tampered with the AFM screw. I had it in the garage on Saturday and set the lambda to 1.00. I've got the blanked-off idle speed set to around the stalling level already, but will need to adjust the TPS position (at the momen...

Re: High idle - Brianmooore can you help?
Freynolds, You need to get an answer off a Brianmooore-type knowledge-brain as to whether your car should idle at 500rpm with the ICV tube blocked off. ANYONE???? Remember I said (on another idle post) I thought that the car should stall, and that at somepoint the throttle stop had been adjusted? D...

Re: High idle - Brianmooore can you help?
Bump for Brianmooore... To summarise: my car idles at a very consistent ~1000rpm. There's no hunting, and it's consistent hot or cold. If the ICV is removed and the holes blocked, the idle comes down to ~500rpm (just on the limit of stalling). The ICV is clearly allowing too much air to pass the thr...

Re: Idle Cotrol Valve
Is it possible for the ECU to provide the wrong signal or target an incorrect idle speed? And is there anyway of testing this? I've got an older 073 ECU on my 325i and it idles at ~1000rpm. I've cleaned up the ICV with carb cleaner, and it definitely works (buzzes, and I've looked in it while it's c...

Re: Help with hoses
In case anyone else is wondering about this, the fuel pipe was 7.6mm diameter, 1m length. Got a replacement from Halfords. To bypass the throttle heater I decided to join the two pipes together so that I can put them back on later if I choose. I used a plumbing connector from B&Q to do the job. Some...

Bump!
I popped into Halfrauds this morning and they seem to have a multitude of fuel hose sizes, but all measured by the internal diameter. Any idea which I need before I have to go dismantling in Halfords carpark?!

Pic request: red calipers behind standard BBS
As title. Does anyone have any pics of red brake calipers behind standard 15" BBS? If you want to tick all the boxes it'd be a Dolphin Grey E30 too  I'm wondering about painting mine. Normally I think red's a bit Halfords-esque on small calipers or - god-forbid - drums, but I'm wondering if th...

Re: High idle and rich running
I think the way it works is the throttle position switch detects when the throttle is shut and opens the ICV to allow enough air in to run the engine at idle with the idle speed and fuel delivery managed by the ECU. I think you're right on that. That's how I understand it. The throttle stop screw w...

Re: High idle and rich running
Today I tried to diagnose my idle problem. I removed the ICV and disconnected the cable. Then I started the car with the two holes blocked off to represent a completely sealed ICV. Idle was ~700rpm like this. From what I've read elsewhere I think this is too high for this condition. I adjusted the t...

High idle and rich running
I'm trying to sort out my high idle and, what smells like, rich running. The idle sits consistently at around 1100rpm, with no hunting. What are the usual culprits of a high but consistent idle? I was going to check the ICV is working correctly. It's just a solenoid that is opened and closed by the ...

Re: Advice on fitting Goodridge brake lines
Your not going to do it at the same time, the spring clip holds the flexi against the mounting tab, this is easily deformed/destroyed so the hard line will pull through. You will still have to spanner the new pipes together but its not bad on brand new unions Ah, I like your thinking. So the hard l...

Forgot to come back to this and let you know that I succeeded in the end :D There is only one size of droplink as far as I know, and they are just a very tight fit on to the ARB. Re: Advice on fitting Goodridge brake lines
The subframe bushes were done 6 years ago (50k miles ago) according to the pile of receipts I went through last night. How long should they last? (I don't know if they were genuine BMW parts). I would like to renew the sub-frame and trailing arm bushes but don't really want the car off the road for ...
