Re:

I'd look towards a roll cage with your setup. Regular seats and seatbelts are designed to move and allow movement in an accident. If the car rolls there is a safety factor that allows you to bend forward or to one side. With bucket seats and harnesses you are held upright. If the car rolls and the t...

Re: Replacing copper solid fuel line tank to front of car 31

So can be done with no removal of fuel tank (which I imagine requires prop/rear subframe/axle removal? Someone said to me the other day it was an 8 hour job and not knowing how to access the top of the tank to get at the pipes started to worry a touch. Sorry if sounds like I'm going on, I know where...

Re: Replacing copper solid fuel line tank to front of car 31

Lines on my car definately gone. At first thought it was the metal pipe corroded as it looked wet but now you can actually see the fuel coming down from higher up which missed before with all the insulation! Looking at below pic reckon it's 9 or 11 that have gone, or the joins on them. Put the car u...

Adrian Flux and HIC are sister companies (teaching Granny to suck eggs here?) and hence offer similar policies. One thing to think about it the excess. I managed to have the track excess knocked down on an HIC policy by proving trackday experience. At first IIRC it was £1k or £2k - pretty much n...

Replacing copper solid fuel line tank to front of car 318is

Have done a search but can't find anything, although previously sure I've read about it! Been offered another 318is for £500 with rust on front wing, needs a new drivers sill, and fuel pipes corroded and leaking front to rear. On my current 318is I have signs of corrosion on the solid fuel lines t...

Really you want a very long sweeping wave from approx 40Hz to 40kHz. Ideally the volume at any given part of the range at the drivers position will be equal to any other. A lot of people want pounding bass though, so really down to personal preferance. In an old "street bass" system I built, I use 2...

Mitsubishi Starion? Pretty much bombproof, just rot badly.

A Pug 205/309 Mi16 could be picked up for that, mine did 14.5 second SQM and built for under £2k as a basic car.

Mate of mine has one and loves it to bits. He has been lucky as absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it. With any of this sort of car the parts are massively expensive (generally speaking) and when things go wrong it costs a small fortune to put right. If you are saying this would be your main car...

Re: 318is exhaust questions - IS specific, where from, how m

That's a hell of a lot more than I thought they'd be for a standard mild steel system. I know with Peugeot 205 Gtis, Arvin make excellent pattern exhausts and the whole lot comes in at about £100 including downpipe. Might have a word with Neal and see if he can price up a full stainless system for...

318is exhaust questions - IS specific, where from, how much?

The exhaust on my IS isn't the best and wondered if it is IS specific. Manifold looks fine, 2 into 1 section isn't as good, and the rest of it to the back probably has a year or two of life left. Who supplies these systems and how much are they? On another note, a place I used to work would be able ...

Re: letting your e30 idle for ages £ ???

At idle your engine isn't efficient, you're won't necessarily getting a clean burn and possible causing/increasing carbon build up and valve seat burn. If starting up from cold and leaving idleling, the engine will warm up slowly. Extra fuel on cold start maps can cause bore wash, and of course oil ...

Re: 318IS AIMING FOR BOUT 330BHP

If you have hotter, more compressed exhaust gasses, they will move quicker and there will be more of it - the standard exhaust might be good but at the extremes this engine would need to be built to I'd say a bespoke system (especially manifold) would be required to get the very best out of it. That...

Re: 318IS AIMING FOR BOUT 330BHP

At a very rough guess and assuming the right parts were available 230-250bhp. If certain parts were not available you'd spent a lot of the cash on the tooling and manufacture costs. To get power you need RPM, and to get RPM you need the right components. The bottom end would need to be forged steel ...

Re: 318IS AIMING FOR BOUT 330BHP

I know these are good engines, but to be anywhere near 300bhp you'd be looking at full race spec, frequent rebuilds and a build in the region of £10k + your engine management. Even then I'd say 300bhp would be an unrealistic target - consider they are pushing roughly 285bhp through Duratecs at the...

I'm confused a little from the lack of much real info on that site - I was assuming that you'd be stuck with an original AFM, but with my lack of BM specific knowledge not sure what Motronic and sensors they actually run on M20 and M40. If this system allows you to remap accurately via TPS and MAF r...

Re: Better than Megasquirt?

I've been thinking about this a lot since reading yesterday and like some of the points about I can't get my head around it. The expensive and important part of "tuning" the car, as they call it, is the mapping. Even if you can map yourself you really need a rolling road. Really looms are easy, and ...

Re: First Track day - advice needed.

I rate Mintex 1155s for the money on cars over a ton, very consistent at pretty much any temp and good bite from cold. Worth changing fluid at the same time IMHO as old fluid will boil up easier. I'd go with the smaller wheel on a set of worn road tyres for a first track day. Something like a moulde...

Anyone got any pics of them with various colour BBS wheels on? I'm trying to work out what colour to paint the wheels I've got. Pretty much as above, the whole rewarding thing gets me. A mate summed it up well with the phrase "smiles per gallon".
