Re: Benefits of Motronic 1.1 to 1.3 upgrade
"I had the 1.1 with single sensor on the tooothed crankshaft. Changed to 1.3 because of - single board on 1.3 (vs double on 1.1) - fault finding error codes in 1.3 (but not in 1.1) although yet to get round to trying this out) was PnP swap over" that is exactly what I though motronic 1.1 was. Motron...

Re: Benefits of Motronic 1.1 to 1.3 upgrade
Motronic 1.1 did not use the two bellhousing sensors at least that what I thought? Motronic 1.0 used the bellhousing sesnors. I though the main difference between motronic 1.1 and 1.3 as the orginial post was fault finding.

The TD04 HL 16T is the one I worked would be suitable for a 2.7i M20. It would be even more suitable on M20 2.5 I did the sums ust to see. Some of the TD05 series would also be suitable.. You could run up to ~13 psi of boost without getting to near the choke line. You should be fair way from the sur...

Well if no water is being used the white smoke won't be steam so why would this be a head gasket.
If it running rich check the CTS. They cause this problem.

Who has done this then with mixed success. I think if you are going to all that trouble you might as well bore out to 85mm and get some proper pistons made.

It may seem to run better but it may be running rich or lean at some points in the rev range. A 325i chip is designed for an M20B25 engine. Use it.

Tach signal wire has an intermitant break in it. Trace the wire back from the cluster (or the problem may the plug at the back of the cluster) and find the break. Or clean up the contacts with of the plug at the back of the cluster with contact cleaner.

Re: Feeler 2.7i engine
The service history is logged manually. The book for some reason was not stamped up. Every owner has recorded in their own handwriting what they done. I have continued that but over the last two years most of the servicing has been done by myself but the bigger jobs (cambelts, water pumps, tensioner...

I really don't know. Just trying to guage interest as the car is repairable but at a cost. I will not break it without the engine going to a good home. What is a 200,000 mile 2.7i with a service history going back to the day the car was bought in 1986 worth?

Re: 2.8 build best cam profiles????
Yes skim the block by 0.5mm, then your CR will with low CR pistons will 9.856:1 as posted or if you use early pistons you will get 10.92:1 for which high octane fuel will be must along with a RR mapped chip or standalone management. You will get the best from an upgraded cam with a block skim.

Re: 2.8 build best cam profiles????
Which pistons are you using. Early one give you a higher CR than later ones. If you have not decked the block 0.5mm your CR will be lower than that quoted in the wiki. To give you an idea. I have a 2.7i with eta pistons a CR of 9.35:1 and with a stock 325i cam I get peak power at 5900 rpm. Putting a...

So if the the one piece manifold is split in that not all pipes are linked as I thought, would the two piece be that much better inside. Why not save up and fit a 6 branch manifold. It not like the E34 525i (M20) has any more power than the 325i from the same year.

Re: 2.7i instead of 2.0 how difficult?
You will need to remove the rad and any pipe work in the way and get the air intake out. Unplug all the loom connections. Remove the exhaust down pipes and the exhaust manifold if like. You will need an engine hoist and you will have to remove the engine from the mounts and the gearbox from it's mou...

Also a 731 head on an eta and an 885 head on an eta gives very similar performance.
I am also have a 731 head rebuilt as the 885 head on my eta block has cracked.

I have also found that the E30 320i/323i/E28 520i exhaust manifold + down pipes and stock exhaust on an 2.7i with 885 head with a 325i cam was doing nothing above 5000 rpm and gave 27-33 mpg and 160hp. Re: e30 316 and 318i piston differences?
Both the 316i and 318i have the same capasity of 1766cc. If the bore and stroke are the case this has to be true. The pistons appear to be the same as you indicated.
Be careful about removing material from the head as remove it from the wrong place and you could end up provoking detonation.

My 2.7i with eta pistons and a 885 head runs about 175hp in an E28. Damilermans E30 327i (eta block) with a 731 head a bit more develops more but his engine is a rebuilt one, mine isn't. The throttle switch in the TPS is "on" at a certain throttle angle, that control the switch over to WOT maps, so even if the change the "indexing of map addresses" would that really make any difference. Surely it would be a whole lot eaiser to disable the WOT function all together.

Gunni/Geoff Bob would a MAF conversion on motronic 1.3 allow a boosted engine to function properly?
